5th WORLD ACCORDION FESTIVAL The 5th World Accordion Festival brings us an artistic and social dimension. Its stage program gathers a set of interpreters in possession of a virtuosity able to thrill the most challenging audiences. This Festival offers an ambitious program, only possible due to the commitment that the municipality puts in it, aware of the artistic scope, national and international, that the festival owns. Much has been accomplished, but this festival presents itself, as usual, with a program that brings together diverse musical projects, which reinforce our cultural dimension because in it we may find musical parallels, from Finland (Kraft), through France (Daniel Miller) to Portugal (ArtClac Duo). These are projects of high musical and artistic quality that, starting from the accordion, invite us to rediscover paths ranging from classical music, the tango, the Jazz and Contemporary, providing the singularity that this festival shares with its audiences. However, this place of crossroads that makes the World Accordion Festival, is also presented in the form of a residence project which has as guests (for bringing together consensus and sympathies of most of the public), the portuguese group Danças Ocultas, Renato Borghetti (coming from Brazil) and Martin Lubenov (from Bulgaria). This residence will culminate in a final concert, with accompanying instrumentalists, a scenery which plays an artistic value that is far beyond a mere concert, because it has a true sense of cultural appropriation for Torres Vedras and its Festivities, opening a space for reflection and experiences with an intense plan of work and practical new technical and musical approaches. This Festival has created a space for multi- culturality that needs to continue, enrich and diversify to maintain its legitimate ownership, and it is in this context that we invite the public to its enjoyment. What in the beginning was an artistic project as a way of keeping alive the culture itself, has become a necessity to reaffirm their own identity and, above all, to assume themselves as a group of friends. What stands out in Tango Quattro is the sound of authentic tango musicians they knew from their childhoods, tango they express with force and with the personality of an unmistakable style, inseparable from the roots tango owns and based in new music arrangements with particular adaptations. Their repertoire include all those styles from the 'old guard' by Astor Piazzolla, through other musicians of reference as Troilo, Salgan, Pugliese, Plaza and other major conductors of tango, which are absolutely faithful stylistically speaking. 3rd to 7th November Artistic Residence Danças Ocultas + Renato Borghetti + Martin Lubenov (Portugal, Brazil and Bulgaria) Teatro-Cine The World Accordion Festival presents, this year, another innovation, to provide a show of global debut with nacional and international musicians who have already performed in the festival. A project that represents an integral renovation at the repertoires presentation, combines and unites different ways of playing and feeling in a laboratory set up to this purpose. A purpose which intends to elect, every five years, a program that has the signature of Torres Vedras, gathering a group of musicians (whenever possible with the presence of Portuguese) which has assembled the satisfaction of public of the festival. Concert » Duo ARTClac (Portugal) - Accordion and Clarinet Duo Paulo Jorge Ferreira and Carlos Alves “Sopro dos Botões” is the presentation set of this duo, formed by two artists with vast experience in extremely different contexts. This proposal embodies, to a certain extent, the discovery of new worlds. From Fado to improvised music through contemporary languages and with the distinct character of this group – self-production. Paulo Jorge Ferreira is also composer and arranger and one of the compositions was written specifically for this group. One of the main characteristics of this presentation is its versatility and the way it fits so many different situations, from the tradition recitative to the integration in broader presentations. www.pjferreira.com
