When given the chance to reinvent NYU’s only fashion publication, I immediately felt the pressure. I brought influences from the East and the West and inspi-ration from my travels to China this past summer. My mother’s closet provid-ed just as much inspiration, especial-ly for the East meets West editorial. Her closet is the perfect example of a fusion between East and West and af-ter decades of her excessive obsession with fashion, I am finally able to take full advantage of it. There is no oth-er place where I can pull vintage Com-me des Garçons and Dior from the same place. If only I can move her closet to New York…

r’s Note
Dear readers,
It’s been a tumultuous year for the world—and thus the word “recessionista” has crept into our vocabulary and elbowed its way into our life-styles. Most college students, with their 60k a year tuition burning Jupiter sized holes through their wallets, are forced to prioritize and there-fore fashion is often forced into the back seat. However, we’re not most college students. NYU students are as colorful, creative, and spirited as the magnificent city we’re so privileged to live in. I love walking down Lafayette or West 4th and seeing my fabulously stylish peers traipse down the street as if it were a catwalk. I’m in London now, and while the city is beautiful and the kids unique, nothing quite compares to the Big Apple. That’s why the NYChic team has worked so ardu-ously on this new issue of NYChic—to present the worlds most stylish students with a magazine worthy of their time and attention.Sending you all my best wishes from London,
Tina Liu
