Winning Las Vegas in the 1950s

ValleyCrest left its initial mark on Las Vegas, Nevada in July of 1958 after

Stardust Resort & Casino. Since then, ValleyCrest has touched nearly every

inch of Las Vegas Boulevard, or The Strip, from building

luxurious pools and thematic landscapes at world-class

resorts to the massive exterior landscape at McCarran International Airport

to performing one of the most flawlessly executed projects in company

historythe streetscape down Las Vegas Boulevard.

    1960s

    1950s

Over the last 60 years, ValleyCrest has ventured into new markets and sometimes, new adventures. The companys success can

be credited mostly to business savvy, but every so often, it really came down to company leaders taking chances and advantage

    of opportunities at hand.

ValleyCrest has created and maintained incredible landscapes over the years. However, these projects below stand out as projects

that launched the company to new heights.

    New Markets in the 1960s

A customer for over 40 years, Rossmoor Walnut Creek is the job that

established ValleyCrest operations in the Northern California market. In fact, the first ValleyCrest Landscape Northern California branch office opened

on-site at the Rossmoor development yard. In December

of 1963, Rossmoor Corporation owner and founder

of Leisure World, Ross W. Cortese, broke ground in Walnut Creek, California

to develop Rossmoor Walnut Creek, the first active adult retirement

community in the San Francisco Bay Area. For the 1960s, Rossmoor

Corporations developments were ahead of the times. As the gated

community developed phase by phase, ValleyCrest was there to provide

detailed landscape development services. Some of ValleyCrests largest

landscape service contracts up to then were awarded for dierent phases

of neighborhood development, known as mutuals, as well as the

communitys golf courses and clubhouses. ValleyCrests first maintenance

contract was for $86,000 when the crew began caring for the grounds in

1986. Maintenance crews currently care for six homeowner associations

    within the 2,200-acre community.

1964 was a big year for ValleyCrest in Southern California when a contract

was won to landscape Los Verdes Golf Course. This ocean view, 18-hole

course, opened in Rancho Palos Verdes and helped to make ValleyCrest a

recognized contractor in the golf community.

    1970s Greening Industry Hills

In April of 1979, at the helm of Southern California

    development, ValleyCrest installed automatic irrigation

systems, the landscape and a methane gas recovery system

at Industry Hills Golf Course, which was constructed atop a

landfill. Industry Hills features two legendary 18-hole golf

courses, the Ike Eisenhower and the Babe Didrikson

Zaharias courses. Leaders at ValleyCrest saw a business

opportunity to oer methane gas recovery system services

before many public agencies and private enterprises,

positioning the company at the forefront of the landscape

    construction and engineering industries.

Industry Hills is now known as Industry

Hills Golf Club at Pacific Palms Conference Resort, a client

    of ValleyCrest Golf Course Maintenance.

Acquisitions, like the TruGreen acquisition in late 2001, brought about big

ticket jobs for the company in new markets including The Big Dig in Boston.ValleyCrest successfully completed over $6 million-worth of

soils, landscape and irrigation work on The Big Dig project,

encompassing nearly six acres of downtown Boston. The result has forever

altered the downtown landscape and is now used as an example of successful

urban landscape design. Other notable jobs were Millennium Park in Chicago,

TIAA-CREF in North Carolina and whole Foods Corporate Campus in Austin.

Quality Performance Earns ValleyCrest InternationalRecognition in the 1980s

The 1984 Summer Olympic Games were held in Los Angeles and gained

ValleyCrest national exposure when the company was hired to landscape

the exterior of venues as well as many sports fields. ValleyCrests impeccable

timing and detailed work came into play when the company landscaped the

interior of the Los Angeles Coliseum for the Opening Ceremony. Included in

the scope of work for the Opening Ceremony were thematic elements including

show floor and piano installation, as well as floral design.

Taking the Southeast by Storm in the 1990s

In 1992, ValleyCrest re-established a presence in the Southeast when it

won a contract to landscape Georgia International Horse Park, the official

equestrian venue of the 1996 Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta.

    ValleyCrest won

    additional contracts

    for the landscape

    public parks at the

    Summer Olympics

    including Centennial

    Olympic Park, The

    Look of the Games,

    Cherokee Run GolfCourse and the

Olympic Stadium Field for track and field programs. VCLD Atlanta has grown

in size and has maintained its position as a leading contractor in the region

with a resume that includes highway, park and institutional work.

A couple of years later, in 1998, ValleyCrest debuted its largest construction

contract in company history at more than $75 million when it landscaped

Walt Disneys Animal Kingdom in Orlando, Florida.
