Requirement Definition

Ecoplasbrick is a panel made of a mixed plastic waste core with two face sheets of gres, or other materials to be identified. So, it can be considered a sandwich panel. As sandwich panel it can be

tested according to the relevant ASTM standards. ASTM Standard Title

C 273-00 Standard Test Method for Shear Properties of Sandwich Core Materials

C 297-FTS-99 Standard Test Method for Flatwise Tensile Strength of Sandwich Constructions

C 364-99 Standard Test Method for Edgewise Compressive Strength of Sandwich Constructions

C 365-00 Standard Test Method for Flatwise Compressive Properties of Sandwich Cores

C 393/C 393M-06 Standard Test Method for core shear properties of Sandwich Constructions by beam failure

D 7250/D 7250M-06

Standard Test Method for determining Sandwich beam flexural and shear stiffness

Requirement Definition

External wall claddings

For the time being, there isn’t a European specific Standard for products used as outdoor cladding; however, in order to identify the Ecoplasbrick panel requirements, an analysis of the commercial products used for the same application was carried out.

Depending on the identified material of Ecoplasbrick panel face sheets, the panel characterization according to the reference standard will be necessary.

6 Months Meeting – Napoli, 31 January 2012

Requirement DefinitionProperty Note Standards

Regularity (dimensions, thickness, straightness of corners, right angles, flatness)

In order to obtain excellent technical and aesthetic qualities the panels must have identical sizes and thicknesses and ensure a perfect planarity

•EN ISO 10545-2:2000 (Ceramic tiles)

Structural features (water absorption)

Water absorption is related to surface porosity of the material. The porosity degree is a key requirement from which many other characteristics of the coating

•EN ISO 10545-3:2000 (Ceramic tiles)•EN 438-2:2005 (High pressure decorative laminates – HPL)

Thermal and hygrometric features (thermal shock resistance, frost resistance, coefficient of linear thermal expansion)

The thermo-hygrometric properties are dependent on material density

Chemical properties (resistance to chemical products)

The chemical properties are related to material porosity; the compactness of panel surface aids to improve the its resistance to chemical products

•EN ISO 10545-13:2000 (Ceramic tiles)

Surface mechanical properties (resistance to deep scratches)

The coating must ensure a good surface hardness in order to preserve its original integrity

•EN ISO 10545-6:2000 (Ceramic tiles)•EN 438-2:2005 (High pressure decorative laminates – HPL)

Color resistance to lightThe product must be lightfast when it is exposed to sunlight for extended periods

European Raised Flooring Systems now fall into two main Specification Categories. Those being PSA MOB PF2 PS and the new European Standard EN 12825:2001.

The majority of raised flooring manufactured comes in a standard 600 mm x 600 mm floor panel size and will be supported on steel adjustable understructure .

Properties of interest for the market

Notes

Wear resistanceDepending on the intensity of room usage, in order to ensure an economically viable lifespan.

Dimensional stability In order to allow a simple installation of the raised floor

Antistatic characteristicsFloor coverings for raised floors must be antistatic. This means that electrostatic Bodyvoltage must remain below 2 kV.

Thermal Conductivity

Conductivity requirements for raised floors are based on the requirements of manufacturers of electronic equipment. Users and equipment manufacturers often require lower resistance values for:- Computing centres- Radio transmitting stations

Castor chair The Floor coverings for raised floors must withstand the point loads and rolling action of chair castors

Colour consistency For obvious aesthetical considerations.
