marks the fifth year that Michael is participating with Avaya at GITEX, and he says the vibe has been much more energetic than last year. “I’ve never seen such high interest across the board. I think it’s safe to say we’re back to growth. Last year, the climate was more tense as businesses in the region were considering more, rather than buying new solutions. I believe today, they are more serious about investing in new technologies that are becoming available,” he adds.

A centre for excellenceAvaya and Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority (DSOA) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding to open a new training centre that will feature the company’s latest video and networking products. The facility will aim to address the challenges businesses are currently facing in the region. The centre will be open to partners, large enterprises as well as SMES located in the Middle East, Africa and Turkey and will provide tailored and industry specific courses. One of the main goals behind the creation of such an institute was the need to drive industry certifications on new communications solutions.

“There’s not enough quality training available in this market, as most businesses end up travelling to Europe to take courses or get certified,” says Michael Bayer, EMEA President for Avaya. “We chose Dubai as its ICT space is flourishing, and its well-connected location is key. We are also making SMEs a much bigger part of our marketing focus, so the centre will be a driving force behind

Michael adds that the centre will be established as a training facility but will later be used as an excellence centre, where partners and distributors can go above and beyond to work with Avaya’s developers to implement new solutions in their line of business. Cisco collaborates with Yahsat for satellite services

IACAD links up with Link Development

Cisco has announced today that it plans to collaborate with Al Yah Satellite Communications Company (Yahsat), the UAE-based communications satellite operator, to deliver satellite services to government entities, emergency response and other industries such as oil and gas and construction where field work is required. Utilising the Cisco

In an attempt to bring even more transparency and governance to charities operating in Dubai and enhance the level of oversight across these charities, the Islamic Affairs & Charitable Activities Department (IACAD) of Government of Dubai announced today that it has signed an agreement with LINK Development, a leading provider of integrated technology solutions across the Middle East and a subsidiary of Orascom groups OTVentures, to connect all charity associations with IACAD administratively and financially. This agreement is part of Dubai’s drive to adopt e-government systems to enhance its services to businesses, organisations and residents and increase productivity.

The Islamic Affairs & Charitable

Activities Department (IACAD) of Government of Dubai is an organisation aimed at propagating Islamic culture and developing religious awareness amongst the residents of UAE. The project aims to implement an ‘eCharities Administrative and Financial Linking System’ through a comprehensive deployment across the emirate of Dubai. It will allow IACAD to supervise all charity associations and centers operating in the Emirate administratively, financially and culturally.

Commenting on the project, Sameer Khoory, project manager at IACAD, said: “This solution enables us to improve our oversight and communications with all charities across Dubai. It will help increase our auditing efficiency,

firewall traversal, and management capabilities.

Cisco and Yahsat are not novices when it comes to offering innovative technology solutions in the Middle East region and globally. Cisco TelePresence, which offers a video experience so intuitive, lifelike and natural that it feels as if people were in the same room even when they were miles apart, is a key example of this. What started out as a way to save travel costs and optimize employee time at large companies has evolved into a means of accelerating time to market, expanding access to experts and transforming how companies do business. Likewise, Yahsat designed and launched the region’s first multi-purpose satellite system, based on extensive interaction with customers and research into their communication needs. Subsequently, Yahsat’s first-hand understanding of specific market

requirements has enabled it to develop customized satellite solutions for the government as well as the commercial sector in the Middle East, Africa, Europe, Central and South West Asia.

“Cisco’s collaborative technology solutions such as TelePresence are now making a vital impact across a wide gambit of industry sectors and vertical markets and collaborating with Yahsat goes a long way to illustrate just how versatile and adaptable our portfolio is. Not only are we able to deliver IP communications to mobility, customer care, Web conferencing, messaging, enterprise social software, and interoperable TelePresence experiences, we are also helping to make a difference to people’s lives by delivering the value of true anytime anywhere collaboration even in the harshest of environments,” says Wael Abdulal, Collaboration Manager, Cisco UAE.

increase our visibility on business-related activities and will also enhance cross charities workflow and communications.

The new cloud-based solution also offers IACAD the possibility of electronically auditing all the activities of these charities real-time, thus bringing more transparency and efficiency into their systems.

Yehia El-Katib, Regional Manager OTVentures part of the Orascom Group and a holding company of LINK Development, said: “This project is unique; it is a cloud-based centralised solution which will connect all Dubai-based charities to IACAD and provide consistency in their operations. It is designed to help bring greater transparency and oversight to the process of financial and administrative management in

these organisations, and offer IACAD and charity organisations an easier and more streamlined process for auditing their financials.”

The project will also provide each of the charity organisations operating in the Emirate with a comprehensive system to manage their day-to-day operations, in addition to a website. Through this solution, charity organisations will also be able to request a range of services from IACAD electronically, thus reducing the response time and enhancing work efficiency.

Mohamed Abdul Aziz, UAE Sales Manager at Link Development: “LINK Development aims to build an effective and well-engineered platform which will enable IACAD to enhance its auditing abilities and ensure increase of productivity.”

TelePresence VX Tactical (VX Tactical), high-definition video which is specifically designed for remote field locations, a first for the Middle East, the companies are ensuring that collaboration is truly possible from anywhere.
