US to Help Upgrade Philippine Navy2 May 2012, Associated Press

The US has pledged to assist the Philippines Navy in building up its naval capabilities and assets to enhance its maritime security. This comes days before the Navy submitted a P500 billion proposal to the government for a 15-year strategic development plan to upgrade its warfare capabilities. Terming it as ‘Philippine Fleet Desired Force Mix’ concept, the new proposal will look at the acquisition of frigates, corvettes, OPVs, helicopters and MPAs.

Understand the Philippines Navy operational perspectives on Day 1 at 1120 hrs as Captain Albert Mogol, Chief of Staff, Fleet Command, delivers an operational briefi ng on maritime operations and achieving the Philippine Fleet Desired Force Mix concept.

Also dive deeper into current OPV acquisition plans for the Philippines Navy in our Requirements Focus Day with the Team Leader of the Defense Acquisition System Assessment Team.

New Bakorkamla Chief Installed6 July 2012, Jakarta Post

Coordinating Political, Legal and Security Affairs Minister Djoko Suyanto installed on Friday Rear Adm. Bambang Suwarto as the Indonesian Maritime Security Coordinating Board (Bakorkamla) Executive Director. He added that Bakorkamla had a diffi cult task in coordinating maritime security activities.

So far, Indonesia does not have a dedicated coastguard, so the responsibilities for maritime security are divided among several ministries and institutions, such as the Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Ministry, the Indonesian Navy, the Finance Ministry’s Customs and Excise Directorate General, the Transportation Ministry’s Sea and Coastguard Directorate, and the National Police’s Water Police division, to name but a few.

Find out some of the challenges that Bakorkamla currently faces in coordinating maritime security activities and its upcoming procurement of new patrol vessels by hearing from Admiral Susanto, Head of Maritime Security Operations Coordination Center, Bakorkamla on Day 2 at 1300hrs.

WITH ALL THAT IS HAPPENING IN THE GLOBAL AND REGIONAL MARITIME SECURITY DOMAIN,

DON’T MISS OPVS ASIA PACIFIC 2013 TO UPDATE YOURSELVES ON THE LATEST DEVELOPMENTS AT HAND!

Dear Colleague,

With seaborne terrorism, piracy and smuggling remaining ever-prevalent threats in Asia, OPVs and their component upgrades remain at the forefront of regional Navies and Coast Guards’ policies and plans. In addition, with the expansion of maritime operations to include search and rescue, humanitarian aid and disaster relief for both Navies and Coast Guards, the 3rd Annual Offshore Patrol Vessels Asia Pacifi c 2013 conference is vital for engaging in high-level dialogue and discussion regarding the best strategies and solutions to overcome the operational challenges of a myriad of maritime operations. Furthermore, OPV capability building and current and future roadmaps will be discussed by the region’s Navies and Coast Guards.

Offshore Patrol Vessels Asia Pacifi c will once again gather the most important stakeholders from the region’s Navies and Coast Guards, making it the only dedicated regional event to provide you with both the strategic and operational overview of the OPV market and maritime security.

This year, in order to ensure a fruitful discussion, we have included an unprecedented pre-conference requirements focus day for Navies and Coast Guards to discuss operational challenges and their requirements to fulfi l their wide-ranging scope of maritime operations. In addition, participate in the main conference to hear fi rst-hand operational experiences from fl ag and senior naval offi cers as they walk you through the challenges and strategies they have employed to successfully utilise OPVs to fulfi l various maritime operations. See keynote briefi ngs from the Royal Malaysian Navy, MMEA, Indonesian Navy, Royal Thai Navy, Indonesian Coast Guard, Hong Kong Marine Police plus many more.

I would also like to take this opportunity for you to update yourselves on the latest naval technology and sea platforms and for you to benchmark your practices with your regional counterparts.

Do not miss this chance to network with international and regional experts, colleagues, forge new relationships and enhance your awareness of the key stakeholders in the Asian OPV market.

I look forward to meeting you and welcoming you to this very unique event in April.

Yours Sincerely,

Joshua LimConference Director3rd Annual OffshorePatrol Vessels Asia

Sponsorship Opportunities:

Here’s how you can spend your marketing bucks wiselyDear Colleague,

As one of the prominent players in the maritime security and surveillance industry, Austal is very happy to be associated with the 3rd Annual OPVs Asia Pacifi c conference as an event sponsor.

Austal will be displaying its thought leadership at the event, showcasing its latest range of patrol vessels and its tailor-made solutions for the Asian Pacifi c market. Austal has previously sponsored IQPC’s OPV Asia Pacifi c events and were impressed with the quality of the conferences, in terms of the attendance and the networking opportunities that we have benefi ted from. With this in mind, we believe that OPVs Asia Pacifi c 2013 will provide an even greater opportunity for us to meet with key senior decision makers from regional Navies, Coast Guards and maritime enforcement agencies on a far larger-scale.

In this increasingly active and competitive market, networking opportunities and meeting the right points of contacts is crucial and I am glad to say that OPVs Asia Pacifi c 2013 will provide Austal with this platform. Join us this April to fi nd out more about Austal’s latest range of solutions that will be tailor-made for your organisation.

I look forward to meeting you at the conference this year.

Regards,

Colin SimpsonRegional ManagerAustal
