Top 10 bars and pubs in Leeds.
With around 170 bars and 40 pubs in Leeds I have picked my top 10 watering holes based on the cheapest and friendliest places to enjoy a tipple all year round. Being a student I have to be getting something good for my money but I also have to have a nice environment to sit down, relax and maybe read a book. All of the places will be in and around the city centre and they will appeal to all ages, I will include a price range and an image of the location just in case you would like to visit it for yourself.
Dry dock
this has to be one of my favourite pubs in Leeds, a boat which is in the middle of a grassy island really catches the eye, it holds a pound night every Tuesday which is great for students and it also does brilliant pints, average cost for a pint £3
Bierkeller
this stereotypical German bar is brilliant! With steins from £7 it really is worth it. It holds jam nights every Sunday and also has umpa bands that play regularly, fantastic atmosphere and a brilliant selection of German Ale, also located right next to town.
The brewery tap
located right next to the train station there is no excuse to not stop for a drink and enjoy a pub with real buty and character before going anywhere, with huge range of unheard of ales, it’s bound to get the taste buds going. The price is not too bad £3.50 a pint but you’re paying more for the atmosphere.
The White swan
down a back alley off the busy streets of Leeds opposite Bagel Nash, this idyllic bar/pub plays host to a huge selection of foreign beers. Its pricey but completely worth every penny. With fantastic traditional pub food served at high end restaurant style superb for a first date.
The original oak
with cheap food and drink which is very tasty, a bargain for money, The Original Oak is another one of my favourites, over towards Headingly a half an hour walk from town, this pub has a lovely beer garden and often plays host the traditional Otley Run, but don’t worry as that is later at night, and the madness doesn’t last all night.
Santiago’s
Located in the grand arcade in the city centre, Santiago’s is a brilliant rock bar, with rock memorabilia such as a signed poster by the Foo Fighters and drum sticks along with other items collaging the walls, it’s safe to say this place is full of character. Bands occasionally play and its always busy so be sure to get in early for seats! Drinks are a good price, a pint is £3.
The Met Bar
being a Leeds Metropolitan student It’s only right to include the student union, not just because I’m a student here but because it plays host to some top bands such as the Foals. With cheap drinks to choose from and a modern look, it Is a perfect venue to stay and drink all night. Fuel is a brilliant for all the Rock and Indie lovers which is every Friday and costs £5.
The Stone Roses Bar
This is a bar, not a pub. Perfect for a night out. With lively music getting everyone up to dance you will never want to leave and be waiting for another Saturday night to put your dancing shoes on and get back! Open till 4 so set aside the next day for recovery. Great atmosphere and no long queues for drinks.
Norman
Norman is a bar/ restaurant. Great as a pit stop to stop and recharge and watch the hustle and bustle of Leeds go by. it’s very relaxing and is located in the bar area of Leeds with helpful and friendly staff who are very welcoming.
The Headingly Arms
this is another pub that is on the otley run “hit list” however it has lots of seating and pool tables to relax and socialise with friends. This is another one of my favourites as it is in a brilliant area. Average price for a drink £3.
