HP flaunts... Sophos and Cyberoam...in the UAE to monetize their huge data sets. We also have a lot of engagements around Smart Cities and Smart Governance. We can bring in best practices and many other values to the local market, and it is exciting to see that UAE is already driving this change and embracing new technologies. I believe Dubai will emerge as a role model for other cities in the region, because they are building a shared platform across government entities which is a prerequisite for Smart Cities,” adds Zierl.

Though the trend towards a software-defined world is expected to make hardware less and less important,

Zierl says HP’s infrastructure business, which includes compute, storage and networking, is growing at a fast pace globally. “There will always be a requirement for underlying infrastructure and we are proud of our board portfolio. Our services capabilities are second none and we believe we are the only IT vendor that offers end-to-end solutions, ranging from infrastructure to software to services. We are also the major proponent of open systems, which means that for customers looking for best-of-breed choices, we can help them integrate different technologies in a heterogeneous environment.”

According to IDC Research, the network securi ty market reached $7.9 bi l l ion in 2012; UTM comprised $2.7 bi l l ion of the market and was cited as the fastest growing segment at 21 percent growth. In the recent Gartner Magic Quadrant for Unif ied Threat Management, Sophos was again named a “Leader” and Cyberoam a “Vis ionary.” “What makes us di fferent,” says Chib, “ is that now we can provide end-to-end solut ions for our customers. People want solut ions to be simple now, and with this partnership, our customers can get just that.”

The transit ion places

Sophos and Cyberroam in an ideal posit ion to succeed in what has proven to be a dynamic and fast growing network securi ty market. With the acquisi t ion, the company hopes to accelerate their network securi ty v is ion by leveraging more resources for product innovat ion, more sales and partner reach and a higher prof i le as a disrupt ive leader in the industry. As for their roadmap, “Training wi l l be completed in the next s ix months,” says Chib, “we have work ahead of us, be we are excited for GITEX next year.”

What will you be doing special at this year’s Gitex and what are you showcasing? This year, the Veritas team will be allocated on the Mindware stand to demonstrate the new product portfolio in Information Management, Information Availability and Data Insight.

At Gitex, Veritas will be unveiling a significant piece of research based on an EMEA-wide survey highlighting Information Management issues such as data management, cloud and the value of data. The first ‘Databerg Report 2015’ examines the reasons behind the wild growth of dark, useless and expensive data, including the common ‘storage is free’ misconception, and

looks at what is holding companies back from obtaining true value from their data.

Importantly, Veritas’ research has indicated that 69% of companies in the UAE have no strategy to allocate a business value to their data. This is the highest rate in all EMEA. Also, the cost of maintaining the explosion of data will cost an average mid - large company in UAE millions of dirhams a year.

If this is your first time, what are the reasons for participating? Gitex Technology Week is an important platform for Veritas to reconnect with our stakeholders, customers and the local ICT community. It is a prime opportunity for us to unveil the newly formed Veritas brand and reinforce our commitment to the region.

Does Gitex help you connect with your customers and partners? Our distribution partners, such as Mindware, are an extension of the Veritas team and act as a catalyst to showcasing the value of the Veritas solution portfolio, product roadmap, as well as assisting in positioning the Veritas value proposition against regional competitors.

Veritas sheds light on Dark Data

Amer Chebaro, Regional Director, Gulf & KSA at Veritas

The Mindware teams acts as a knowledge transfer partner to our resellers by training their technical and sales team to deliver the best consultative solution to customers. At Gitex, Mindware can explain to resellers and customers the reasons behind the split from Symantec into a privately held company owned by equity group, Carlyle. Mindware will also be able to articulate how the split will enable Veritas to invest more in products and solutions that are relevant to our customers based in the Middle East in solving their current and future requirements.

What kind of IT trends do you expect to have an impact on the regional ICT industry over the next 12-18 months? The digital world is generating more and more data every year, the total amount of data will double every two years between now and 2020. Data centers are being established around the world to house all this flooding information. But the traditional way of throwing hardware and cloud resources at the problem does not solve it anymore.

Companies need to start to shed light into the dark

data and start to reduce the risk and costs and start to delete the data. This basic conversation can be found in various industry and business trends like software defined storage, flash based storage or hybrid and public clouds. Organizations are looking for approaches to simplify operational complexity, reduce operating costs and remain effective.

Veritas will bring a unique combination of experience in application availability and storage management on premises and in the cloud. We will support companies to find the estimated 1.5 percent of truly valuable data in their organization and bring new services and insights to life. Do you have plans to come back to the show next year? Yes. We will be back in 2016 and you can expect more focus, more engagement and more innovation from Veritas in the next year. Following the separation from Symantec, Veritas will be able to drill down into its core areas and create better products for customers. The business will focus on three key pillars - data protection through backup, data governance through archiving, and high availability.
