“In terms of channel enablement, training is a big focus for us. We are a huge believer of skills transfer. The other major focus area, which is the key objective with the Comstor Edge programme is Marketing-as-a-Service. Here we work very closely with our partners to create demand in their end user base by providing them with marketing support,” adds Lockie.

In terms of technologies, the distributor is betting big on cloud services, mobility and security solutions.

He says, “With cloud services and changing consumption models, the region will be highly impacted.

D-Link...The company is also exhibiting

a number of products in the 3G and 4G segments, switching, and more.

Aside from showcasing their latest products, Hussain shares that the event is very important for the company as it enable them to meet and engage with their existing customers and partners, as well as gain prospective clients.

Hussain underlines that over the last few years a lot of competition in the networking space has surfaced which presents a challenge for them. However, he explains that the way they deal with this bottleneck is by quickly delivering the latest technologies to their customers at a reasonable price.

In addition, he mentions that since the company does business in the Middle East and Africa region, they have made sure that a dedicated team was assigned to each of the verticals that they cater to. “We have also set up numerous ‘Experience Zones’ at some of the major retailers in the region which customers can visit to get first-hand knowledge and experience of D-Link products before buying them,” Hussain adds.

Moreover Hussain highlights that as D-Link has a vast array of products in our portfolio, they consider themselves as a true networking vendor which differentiates them from the competition in the market.

We also see threat identification, prevention and remediation at the edge and in mobility, especially in wireless mobility gaining huge traction.

We are seeing the most growth in mobility and security around that mobility.”

“The show is highly relevant in bringing together the key decision makers in the region in an environment where we can share our mutual business plans and strategies.”

The Dubai Airport Freezone Authority (DAFZA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Dubai Smart Government (DSG) to strengthen cooperation in providing support to government smart services in line with their mutual efforts to implement the directives of the UAE’s wise leadership aimed at transforming Dubai into a ‘smart Smart City.

The agreement was signed by Dr. Mohammed Al Zarooni, Director General, DAFZA, and H.E. Ahmed Mohammed Bin Humaidan, Director General, DSG, in the presence of key officials and managers from both sides at DSG’s stand in GITEX Technology Week 2015.

The mutual cooperation will revolve around DSG’s support for the information and communications technology (ICT) services and smart applications provided by DAFZA. The new partnership is of major significance to strengthen integration and harmony between the two parties in providing high-quality smart services which is necessary for achieving the objective of making Dubai the smartest city in the world, in line with the vision of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

The reenergized collaboration will address training requirements and commitment to DSG’s

information security policies. This will ensure the delivery of highly reliable smart services which can enhance the satisfaction and happiness of DAFZA’s customers – including investors, entrepreneurs, regional, multinational and international companies and DAFZA employees. DSG will take all the necessary steps to accommodate DAFZA’s requests which mainly focus on request for information (inquiry), training, service access, data maintenance, resolutions, and enhancement.

Dr. Al Zarooni emphasised the importance of strengthening cooperation with DSG which is leading the way in building the innovative and proactive government of the future. He

pointed out that the strategic partnership reflects DAFZA’s commitment to the smart transformation initiative launched by H.H. Sheikh Mohammed to make Dubai a smart and sustainable city by 2021. This supports Dubai’s preparation to host World Expo 2020 which requires the provision of ultimate-quality and high-value smart services, on par with Dubai Vision 2021.

“The mutual agreement creates a robust foundation for establishing a strong, complementary relationship that adds value in terms of offering the highest standards of information security and supporting DSG’s service,” said Dr. Al Zarooni. “This move is part of our ongoing commitment to keep pace with latest smart technologies and fast-emerging IT innovations in order to offer high-level services and solutions and increase customer satisfaction and happiness. We are upbeat about the MoU we have signed which complements our ongoing efforts to achieve the goals of the smart city initiative. It will enable us to raise the bar on IT infrastructure and offer integrated smart services that will further promote our position as one of the most advanced free zones in the world and support Dubai’s quest for a smart transformation.”

During GITEX, DAFZA also unveiled numerous of smart services and apps such as the SMART Investor, SMART Operations, DAFZA Eye and SMART Employee among others.

Despite a slowdown in the system integration market, Dubai-based EMW Middle East has registered a 30 percent growth in business over the last year.

“This is due to specific solutions focused on data centres, mobility coupled with major upgrades with the existing customers. We have also made inroads into new customer base, especially in hospitality and leisure sector. In addition, we have had some major wins in the education sector, by signing deals with Abu Dhabi University and Dubai University,” says Serjios El-Hage, Group CEO of EMW.

He says the squeeze in IT budgets hasn’t had any adverse impact on his company’s business. “Special ised, vert ical-focused SIs have been affected by

the downturn, and we are immune to this because we have diversi f ied our business, which is spl i t 50:50 between commercial and government.”

EMW, which has vendors such as Juniper, AirWatch and Riverbed in its portfolio, is planning to step up its focus on cloud and application performance. “Convergence has taken a different twist now; earlier, it used to mean integrating on-premise infrastructure and applications. Now, we are moving towards cloud in a hybrid model, where customers require integration

between private and public cloud environments. We can help customers either migrate completely to cloud or cloud-enable their existing infrastructure on-premise,” adds El-Hage.

Over the next 12 months, EMW is planning to expand its geographical footprint within the UAE. “We have offices in Dubai and Abu Dhbai, and we will open up an office in the northern Emirates, either in Sharjah or Ajman. We are also planning to expand our portfolio by signing up niche vendors in the areas of security in cloud and storage,” says El-Hage.
