Steam Turbine Oil SpecificationDescription Standard

Introduction

This standard specifies the turbine oil recommended foruse in governing and lubrication systems of BHEL makesteam turbo set.

Description

Oil of viscosity class ISO VG 46 shall be used. The oilshall be a petroleum product with or without additives tomeet the requirement of this standard. The finished oilshall be clear and free from water, suspended matter,dust, sediment and other impurities.

The turbine oil shall not contain additives having anynegative effect on the materials of the oil system. Theturbine oil must be capable of withstanding bearingtemperature of max. 130C and oil tank temperature ofmax. 80C without physical and chemical degradation.

The properties of the oil shall not be affected bycentrifuging, water washing or filtering.

Compatibility

For topping up of the oil system, it is preferable if the oused is of the same brand and quality as that already ithe system. However, if the same brand of oil is no

available and where it is intended to mix in differenproducts that individually conform to this standard, compatibility test should be conducted before actualmixing the oils. Samples of both the oils in equal volumshould be mixed and centrifuged for about 40 hrs. Anthen mixture must comply fully with the requirements othis standard.

Properties

The oil should comply with the requirements given itable below when tested according to the test methodgiven in the respective standards mentioned against eacproperty. For obvious reasons, we do not give any speciarecommendation to a particular brand of oil to be used ithe oil system of our turbo sets. Any brand of the ocomplying with the above standards may be used
