Brief background
• Objectives:
– Create awareness of the importance of Research and Innovation as
tools for socio-economic growth and progress;
– create an opportunity for Unisa students to understand the strategic R&I
initiatives that the country is pursuing;
– create a platform for students to present and discuss their
research across disciplinary and college boundaries.
How to Participate?
• Two Parts (linked)
– Part 1
• Call for Research Papers and the review of such papers
– Part 2
• Showcase event scheduled for (16 - 18) August 2017
Part 1: Call for Research Papers
– Open to all Registered Unisa students
– Undergraduate and Postgraduate
– ALL DISCIPLINES
• Social Science
• Natural and Physical Sciences
• Arts
• Humanities
How to Participate?
You may submit:
• Short paper (2 pages, including references)
– Started their research but have no results yet, or
– Have not started but have some thoughts about what they would
like to do research on.
– Undergrads + Honours students only

• Long paper (8 pages, including references and abstract)
– Have started their research and have results to report.
– Masters and PhD students only

How should students submit?
• Register and submit your research paper via this link:
https://upjournals.co.za/index.php/USRIS/user/register
Information to be submitted
1. Research Paper (in MS Word)
• Short Paper - 2 pages including references
OR
• Long paper – 8 Pages including references (and abstract)
• Format: Times New Roman, 12p and 1.5 spaced
2. Upload Proof of registration in step 4
• Deadline – 15 May 201
• Plagiarism – reference
• Stick to page numbers
• Proof of registration
• Deadline – 15 May 2017: No late submissions will be
considered.
