INSURANCEQ. What are my duties if I file a property claim withmy insurance company?

A. As a condition of coverage, your property policyrequires certain things of you in the event you have aloss. These are conditions that must be met by thepolicyholder in order for the insurance company to payfor the loss.

1. Prompt notice of loss must be given to the company

or their agent.2. Theft loss must be reported to the police.

3. Property must be protected from further damage. If this requires theinsured to make reasonable and temporary repairs to protect theproperty, accurate records must be kept of the repair expenses.

4. The policyholder has a duty to cooperate with the insurer in the claiminvestigation.

5. The policyholder must prepare an inventory of the damaged or lostpersonal property. A full description and value must be listed andreceipts, bills, or related documents should be included if available.

6. The policyholder must make the damaged property available forinspection by the insurance company.

7. Policyholder must complete a proof of loss form and it must be signedand sworn.

Hail Damage

The weather we have experienced over the pastfew weeks make this a perfect time to discuss hail and the serious damage hail can cause to avehicle. Our customers usually ask two questions:first, is hail damage covered by insurance; andsecond, how is this damage repaired?

Hail damage does fall under the comprehensiveportion of an insurance policy; which also coversissues such as deer hits, theft, vandalism, fire, and acts of nature thatare beyond your control.

We examine the car thoroughly and identify the hail damage.Depending on the severity of the dent, we use one of two repair meth-ods. The dent might be able to be repaired using a paintless dentrepair process, where we actually work the dent out without having tobreak the paint. However, the severity of some dents requires themto be repaired using conventional methods repairing and painting

the damaged area as required. In either case, Randy Lane's AutoBody, Inc. will effectively handle a hail damage claim for you.

Q. What should I do if I discover a mistake

on my tax return?

A. If you discover an error on your tax return,

the IRS allows you to amend your original filing.

The IRS will usually correct math errors that

occur on your return, so you do not have to

amend your return for this reason. However, dofile an amended return if your filing status, your

total income, and your deductions or credits are incorrect. You

use Form 1040X, Amended U.S. Individual Income Tax Return

to correct a previously filed return, whether paper filed or

electronically filed. The amended return must be mailed to the

appropriate IRS Processing Center. After showing the changes,

you must provide an explanation as to why you are making the

changes. If the changes require additional tax forms, they must

be prepared and filed with the amended return. Generally, to

claim a refund, you must file Form 1040X within three years

from the date you filed your original return or within two years

from the date you paid the tax, whichever is later. If you have
