Before Reading
▶ Prior Knowledge
1) 극지방의 기후환경과 사는 동물에 관해 이야기를 나눈다. (여러 그림 자료/지구본/세계 지도를 준비)
- 북극동물: arctic fox, arctic wolf, arctic rabbit(hare), reindeer, polar bear, seal, walrus. arctic seagull
- 남극동물: penguin, walrus, whale
※ 북극에 사는 동물과 남극에 사는 동물이 다른 것을 꼭 기억해주세요!
This is the earth. There are lots of lands and seas on the earth.
We live in Korea and there are four seasons in a year. Spring, summer, fall and winter.
Look at this area. We call this area the North Pole.
The North Pole is located in the Arctic. This area is the South Pole.
The North Pole and the South Pole are located at opposite ends of the earth.
Can you guess how the weather is in these area? Yes, it's cold. It's very cold.
The Arctic tundra and the Antarctic have two main seasons: winter and summer.
Summers are very short. Only one tree grows here. Not many people live in these areas.
There are animals in the Arctic and in the South Pole. Let's take a look these pictures.
This is a polar bear. Have you ever seen one? It has white fur and it can swim in the sea.
This is a fox and it lives in the Arctic so we call it an Arctic Fox.
Its fur is usually white, but some of them are grey or brown.
This is a reindeer. It lives in the Arctic. It has strong, rough fur to protect it from cold weather.
Usually the male deer has horns but both male and female reindeers have horns.
This seagull is a bird we can see in the North Pole. What’s this? Yes, It’s a penguin. Isn't it cute?
Penguins live in the South Pole. The penguin has wings that look like fins so the penguin can swim
well in the sea but it can't fly. This is a walrus. Walruses live in the South Pole, too. People can see
whales in the seas around the South Pole. There are many kinds of whales in the South Pole.

As you learned, the animals which live in the North Pole and the South Pole can be classified
by where they live.
Some animals live in the ocean. Can you tell me the names of animals which live in the ocean?
Most of the animals living in the ocean are called 'fish'.
There are many other kinds of animals in the ocean.
Let's take a look these pictures. Can you say the name of these animals?
They are sharks, octopus, squid, jelly fish, starfish, crab, and shrimp.
Sharks have sharp teeth and many of them are huge.
The octopus and the squid look alike. The octopus has 8 legs and the squid has 10 legs.
Look at this jelly fish. You have to be careful to not be stung by a jelly fish.
This looks like a star. It sticks on the rock or on the ocean floor. We call this a starfish.
The crab and the shrimp are animals that live in the ocean.

If you hold a snack up with your fingers the seagulls will snatch it with their beaks.

(토끼) This is a rabbit. The rabbit has long ears and is covered with fur.
The rabbit can hop and run very fast on the snow.
(물개) This is a seal. The seals live in the North Pole.
They can clap with their fins and swim well in the sea.

He looks lonely. Maybe he wants to play with his friends, but he can not find a friend.
(여우 그림을 붙이고) Oh, here is a fox. "Will you play with me?" said the penguin.
The fox said, "Okay, let's run." Oh, no. Penguin can't run fast like fox.
(갈매기 그림을 붙이고) Oh, here is a seagull. "Will you play with me?" said the penguin.
The seagull said "Okay, let's fly in the sky." Oh, poor penguin. He can't fly.
(토끼 그림을 붙이고) Oh, the rabbit came up to him. "Will you play with me?" said the penguin.
The rabbit said "Okay, let's hop." Do you think the penguin can hop? Sorry, he can't hop.
(물개 그림을 붙이고) The seal came up to him. "Will you play with me?" said the penguin.
The seal said "Okay, let's swim." Do you think the penguin can swim?
Yes, the penguin can swim well in the ocean. They are swimming together in the sea.

활동목표 : 동물의 특징과 이름 알기
준 비 물 : 동물 그림 (penguin, fox, seagull, rabbit, seal)
활동방법 :
1) 교사는 그림책에 나왔던 동물 그림을 준비한다.
2) 동물들의 이름을 큰 소리로 말해보며 기억해 본다.
3) 한 장의 그림카드를 뒤집어 놓고 그 동물의 특징을 말하면서 몸으로 표현해서 힌트를 주면 해당 동물을
큰 소리로 말하게 한다.

활동목표 : 내가 할 수 있는 것 알아보기
준 비 물 : 동물들의 동작 그림 카드 (run, hop, fly, swim, slide)
활동방법 :
1) 동물들의 동작에 관해 이야기 나누고 동작으로 표현해 본다.
2) 동작의 이름을 큰 소리로 말해본다.
3) 교사는 동물의 이름과 동작의 이름을 연결하며 이야기 해준다. (run, hop, fly, swim, slide)
Who (hops) in the story? Yes, the (rabbit) can hop in the story.
Let's say "(hop)". Let's pretend (hopping).
4) 각자 할 수 있는 동작을 나와서 몸으로 표현하면 맞히는 놀이를 한다.

활동목표 : 바다생물 이름 알기
준 비 물 : 바다 생물 그림 카드 각 두 쌍씩(뒤에 찍찍이 부착)
공이 달린 낚시대 2개 (공에 보들이부착)
긴 바구니 2명(선택)
활동방법 :
1) 물고기는 바다생물 그림카로 준비하고 뒤에는 클립 대신 찍찍이를 부착한다.
낚시대는 끝에 자석대신 스티로폼공을 부착하고 공에는 보들이를 붙이고 끈 길이는 약간 두껍고 길게 한다.
끈을 고무줄로 해도 좋다.
2) 전체를 남극팀(Team Antarctic), 북극팀(Team Arctic) 으로 나눈 후 팀별로 1명씩 나오게 한다.
Let's split you into two groups.
Your group's name is Team Antarctic. Your group's name is Team Arctic.
I need two players to play this game.
3) 공이 달린 낚시대를 주고 신호에 맞추어 낚시대를 바구니에 던지게 한다.
공에 단어카드가 붙으면 단어카드를 떼어내서 이름을 말하게 한다.
Each of you will have a fishing rod. Throw the fishing rod to the basket to catch a card.
If you catch a card, say the name of the fish then you will get a point.
4) 먼저 단어카드를 낚아 오는 사람이 이기게 된다.
The one who gets the point wins the game.

활동방법 :
1) 유아들에게 동물 그림카드를 무작위로 나누어 준다.
2) 교사는 펭귄이 되고 유아들은 한 줄로 서게 한다.
3) 유아들에게 자신이 가지고 있는 카드의 동물 이름과 무엇을 할 수 있는지 생각해 보고 말해보게 한다.
4) 교사는 유아들 한 명씩에게 “Will you play with me?" 라고 물어본다.
5) 유아는 자신이 가지고 있는 카드의 동물이 한 말을 기억하고 말한다.
“Okay, let's (run, fly, hop, swim)."
6) 이때 교사는 storybook 의 대화처럼 “Sorry, I can't (run, fly, hop)." 이라고 말하거나,
"Okay, let's swim." 이라고 말한다.
7) 유아들의 수준을 고려해서, 6) 활동 시 "Hi, I'm a (fox, seagull, rabbit. seal)" 이라고 말하도록 시도해본다.

이글루 게임판 (이글루 그림 7-5 그림자료 폴더)
활동방법 :
1) 이글구 중 구멍을 여러 개 내어 문처럼 열 수 있도록 만든다.
뒤에 천을 덧대어 두 개 붙여서 주머니처럼 만들어 단어카드를 넣었다
뺐다할 수 있도록 만든다.
2) 단어카드를 이글로 안에 넣고 유아들이 색깔을 말하면 해당 색깔만 열어서
안의 그림을 볼 수 있게 한다.
3) 그림의 일부를 보고 단어를 맞힐 수 있게 한다.
4) 3번 안에 맞히어야 한다는 규칙을 정해두면 더 재미있게 할 수 있다.
* 열 수 있는 문의 색깔을 3개만으로 만들고 같은 색으로 주사위를 만들어서 주사위를 굴려 나온 색깔의
문만 열 수 있도록 할 수 있다.

▶ Extra Activity 1 [ Find the Other Half of the Puzzle ]
활동목표 : 동물 카드 조각 찾기
준 비 물 : 동물 카드를 4~5개 출력하여 반으로 잘라서 2조각을 만든다.
활동방법 :
1) 동물 카드를 붙인 상태에서 보여주고 이름을 이야기하면서 본문 문장을 묻고 대답하는 연습을 한다.
2) 문장 연습을 다 한 후에는 카드를 나누어서 뒤집어 칠판에 붙이고 나머지도 같은 방법으로 소개한다.
3) 교사가 카드 한 개를 뒤집고 I can (run). 라고 말하면
유아들은 Let's (run) like a (fox) 하고 말한 후 매칭되는 다른 반쪽 카드를 찾게 한다.
* 동물 카드 한 개를 뒤집고 문장을 말한 후 다른 유아가 대답을 하고 매칭되는 다른 반쪽을 다시 찾게 할 수 있다.

활동목표 : 펭귄처럼 걷는 게임을 통해 펭귄 걸음걸이를 흉내 내보고 요청하고 대답하는 표현을 연습을 한다.
준 비 물 : 고무공 2개 (배구공 보다 조금 작은 탱탱볼)
활동방법 :
1) 유어 한 명에게 ‘Will you play with me?하고 묻고 ’Okay.' 대답을 하면 나오도록 한다.
2) 나온 유아가 다른 유아에게 같은 방법으로 묻고 대답하여 한 명을 더 나오게 한다.
3) 두 명에게 공을 주고 공을 무릎에 낀 상태로 걷게 한다.
4) 공을 떨어뜨리기 않고 반환점을 돌아오게 한다.

워크시트지에 있는 동물의 이름을 말해본다.
2) 동물들 중에 추운 지방에 사는 동물들을 누구인지 묻고 대답하도록 한다.
3) 워크시트지를 나누어 준 후 추운지방에 사는 동물들만 찾아서 색칠 또는 동그라미 하도록 한다.

2) ‘u' 카드 여러 장을 준비하고 유아들이 한명씩 나와서 ‘u' 카드를 융판에 붙여놓은 카드 빈 곳에 붙인다.
3) 완성된 카드에 해당하는 그림카드를 찾아서 함께 붙이고 완성된 카드의 단어를 말해본다.

활동방법 :

3) 각 카드 옆에는 해당되는 그림카드를 함께 붙여놓는다.

We have one big book and 4 colored papers.
There is one more paper showing how to make penguins by folding paper.
If you follow the directions step by step you will make cute penguins.
We need a glue and a pen.

It's easy to make but you have to be very careful.

Watch me carefully and follow my lead.
1) 표지에 본인 이름 쓰기
Let's go back to the cover.
The title of this book is 'Penguin and His Friends"
There is a line on the cover. This place is for your name. Can you write your name on it?
2) 색종이를 책상위에 올려놓는다.
Let's put one colored paper on your desk.
3) 순서대로 종이 접기를 한다.
Now, let's go to the first step.
Do you see the folding line on the colored paper?
Let's fold it back up.
Let's fold the end of the paper to the front like in the 2nd step. You will see 2 yellow triangles at both sides.
Fold back up the bottom of the paper and make a triangle.
On the 3rd step, turn over the paper so that you can see the yellow part.
Fold back up the top of the paper like in this picture.
The next step is to fold back the paper along the vertical line.
Then you will see a yellow triangle at the top.
Pull out the yellow triangle slowly.
It's going to be a penguin's face and beak.
Now. here is the penguin.
4) 책의 원 안에 펭귄을 붙인다.
Now, it's time to glue the penguins on the book.
Penguin friends are waiting for penguins.
Who are penguin's friends?
Yes, the seagull, the fox, the rabbit and the seal.

활동목표 : Picture Book 외의 동물들에 대해 알아보기
준 비 물 : 그림책에 나온 동물 카드, run/fly/swim/hop 할 수 있는 여러 동물들 그림카드. Let's (run). 문장
1) 교사는 유아들과 Picture book에서 제시된 문장들을 함께 말해본다. (Let's run(fly,swim,hop).)
2) 또 다른 동물들은 무엇이 있을지 이야기 나눈다.
3) 칠판에 Let's run/fly/swim/hop. 문장 4개를 붙여놓는다.
4) 유아들은 준비된 카드를 꺼내어 동물 이름을 말해보고 알맞은 곳에 붙인다.

Can you tell me which animal can run?
Yes, the fox can run. Who else can run?
Yes, the zebra, and the horse can run, too.

▶ Extra Activity 2 [ Dongdaemun Game : London Bridge ]
활동목표 : 교통기관 특징을 알고 교재의 문장을 말해본다.
준 비 물 : 없음
활동방법 :
1) 그림책에 나왔던 문장을 복습해 본 후 전체를 한 줄로 만든다.
2) 한 명의 유아와 함께 교사가 다리를 만들면 유아들은 한 줄로 다리를 지나가게 한다.
3) 짧은 노래나 London Bridge 노래를 부르다가 노래가 끝날 때 다리를 지나가는 유아를 잡는다.
4) 잡힌 유아에게 교사가 교통기관의 모양을 행동으로 표현하면서 “How do you go to school? 하고 물으면
해당 유아는 교사의 행동을 보고 I go by (car) 라고 대답해야 한다.
5) 전체는 해당 유아가 대답한 동작을 하면서 다시 지나간다.
6) 행동으로 표현할 수 있는 (car, bike, train, airplane, walk) 동작을 하거나
또는 소품을 활용하여 다양한 것들을 제시해도 좋다.
7) 처음엔 교사가 문장을 말하고 표현하고, 나중엔 잡힌 아이가 문장을 말하고 표현해도 좋다.
