give our students a start on the path to taking the Advanced Placement test.

introduce students to the level of rigor they can expect in high school A.P. classes.

Both students and parents are reminded that these courses require much more of students and that the curriculum’s pace and the higher level of expectation cannot be adjusted to help students who may struggle in those aspects.

The purpose of a Pre-A.P. class is to

Parent’s help and support is encouraged but we still put responsibility on the student for their grades and academic success.

Zero Recovery - one chance per six weeks to recover partial credit. Additional late

assignments still need to be completed and checked with the teacher, but the grade remains a zero.

According to Martin students and teachers, there is no set policy on second chances to turn in homework. However, a survey shows that 70% of AP teachers typically do not accept late work.

AP students can learn to bring up their average without zero recovery. We may allow an extra credit opportunity, but do not rely on extra credit.

Grade remediation for quizzes and tests instead of retakes.

Passing vs. eligibility- a grade between 60-69 in a PreAP class is failing, but you are still eligible for extracurricular activities.

A genius level IQ is not required and is really not much help in these classes without a willingness to work. There is a relationship between effort and reward.
