Goals and Themes:Enhancing students’English listening skills so as to allow them to understand TV news stories and academic lectures.

Summary Outline:In this course,students will study two kinds of materials:TV news broadcasts in the first term and academic-style

lectures in the second term. The will be taught key vocabulary before they listen to each news story or academic

lecture. After listening,they will complete comprehension exercises as well as summarize what they have heard. To

accomplish the latter task,during the first term students will be allowed to refer to the news script. However,during

the second term they will have to refer to their own lecture notes,so note-taking skills will also be taught.Finally,homework assignments will allow them to further reflect on the topics covered by the textbooks.

授業の到達目標及びテーマ映像（主として映画）を材料に使って異文化問題を える（異文化論）ことと、映像がどのように異文化問題を扱ってきたかを える（映像論）こと、この２つのアプローチを、混同は避けながらも併用しつつ、種々のレベルでの異文化交流や異文化衝突について えてゆきます。できるだけ新しい映像作品を使いたいので、下記の授業計画は変更になる可能性もあります。

授業の概要受講生数にも拠りますが、学生が（あるいは学生同士で）能動的・主体的に調べ、答え、発表し、議論する、そういうインタラクティブな講義を試みたいと えています。よって、授業で扱う映像作品を事前に観ておくこと、及び作品に対する批評的評価を用意しておくことが、授業参加の大前提となるでしょう。

授業の到達目標及びテーマ反アパルトヘイト運動に関わって８週間の獄中生活を送ったという経歴を持つ、南ア生まれの白人女性児童文学作家ビヴァリー・ナイドゥーの集大成的短編小説集Out of Boundsを読みます。単なる講読に終始するのではなく、各短編の背景となる、アパルトヘイト時代及び1994年の完全民主化以降の南ア社会について各自で調べてもらい、その発表やハンドアウトをもとに作品の細部に踏み込んでいきたいと思っています。Amazon.co.ukのカスタマー・レビューでは全員が★５つの満点評価、面白いことは請け合いです。

授業の概要受講生は少ないと予想されるので、各自の担当箇所について詳細なハンドアウトを作成してもらい、それにもとづいた発表を中心に授業を進めてゆきます。（ポスト・）アパルトヘイト時代の南アについては映画作品も多いので、関連する DVD映像を観ることによって的確なイメージを持ちつつ、「読む」作業を進めていきたいと えています。

授業の到達目標及びテーマThe Mousetrapというイギリス推理劇の傑作を通して、英語の読解力を養成するとともに、戯曲を読む面白さを知ってほしい。この戯曲は1952年の初演以来、現在までロングランを続けているアガサ・クリスティの代表的作品であり、平明な口語表現が使われているので、読みやすい。

授業の概要戯曲を読むための基本的専門用語を解説した後、毎回の授業でテキストを読み進めてゆく。基本的に毎回の授業は、与えられた課題についての学生による発表を中心に進められ、ディスカッションへの積極的な参加が求められる。

授業の到達目標及びテーマ日本語と英語とでは文法構造やことばのニュアンスが異なっているので、英語を自然な日本語に訳す際には、そうした違いに注意を払うことが大切である。この授業では、この二つの言語の基本的な違いを項目別に取り上げて翻訳の際の基礎的なスキルを身につける。
