NMSTA PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
On behalf of the New Mexico State Trapshooting Association and the NRA Whit-
tington Center, I would like to welcome you to our 72nd annual New Mexico State
Trapshooting Tournament. Our Board of Directors and officers have been working
hard this past year to provide you with the best possible shooting experience.
This year with the COVID-19 pandemic we were forced to delay this shoot from its
normal Memorial Day week time. As so many clubs have experienced, we needed
to change with the pandemic. This year we have reduced the number of targets
from 1,500 to 1,000.
Thursday & Friday’s trophies are cash awards and open. This means both resident
& non-resident shooters are competing for the same cash trophy. Non-Resident
shooters will be shooting for cash trophies during Saturday & Sunday’s events.
Resident shooters will be competing for ATA provided trophies. The NMSTA will
provide all added money to both residents & non-residents.
In compliance with the New Mexico Governor’s orders, we will be asked to prac-
tice social distancing and discourage shooters from gathering in larger groups. As
these rules are likely to change before the shoot starts, you will be handed updated
procedures that will be in effect when the shoot starts at the time you classify.
These are challenging times for all of us but together we can make this shoot both
fun and safe for all. Please be patient when classifying & cashiering as we try and
comply with the Governor’s orders. A big thanks goes out to all of you for your
support of trapshooting in the state of New Mexico.
Mark your calendars and get your RV spot secured right away. The Southwestern
Satellite Grand has been re-scheduled for September 29th—October 4th and will
be held at the NRA Whittington Center. More information will be available in the
near future.
Good Luck Shooting Everyone!

CLASSIFICATION AND HANDICAPPING
Shooter classification will be based upon ATA printed Rule V;
Singles & Doubles Events
Classification will be based on registered targets shot this year, last year, or last 500 whichever is the highest. Known ability may also be considered if that may have a bearing on an individual’s ability to break targets.
Any shooter that has registered fewer than 500 targets in 16 yard, handicap or doubles for the current year and two previous years may be assessed penalty yardage and classification. Penalty yardage and classification will be as follows: Men, Sub Veteran, Veteran, Senior Veteran, Junior Gold & Junior – Class B & penalty yardage 23. Lady 1, Lady 2 & Sub-Junior – Class C & penalty yardage 20.
If shooter has registered an excess of 500 targets in 16 yards or doubles, including current and last year, the average of the last 500 targets, current year’s average, whichever is highest, will be used. Abnormally low scores will be disregarded.
It is the contestant’s responsibility to have his / her average card up to date before approaching the classification table. It is also the contestant’s responsibility to show entire registered ATA shooting history for the current year. If average card is not current and up-to-date when presented to the classifier, you will be asked to leave the line and update your card, then get back in line.
As per rule IV; ATA Tournaments
All special category shooters must declare their special category at the time of classification in any registered tournament if they wish to compete as a category shooter. No contestant will be allowed to declare or change a special category declaration after firing his/her first shot. Only one (1) Special Category may be declared. There will be no exceptions to this rule. (Chair Shooters are exempt from this
rule). It is the shooter’s responsibility to see that the classifier enters the correct special category on his / her entry card and also the special category is recorded by the computer upon entry. It is the shooter’s responsibility to verify if asked special category status.
Special Categories: Female shooters shall be designated as Lady 1 or Lady 2. A female shooter who has not reached her 55th birthday will be designated as Lady 1. A female shooter who is 55 or over will be designated as Lady 2. Because of age, female shooters may also be designated as a Sub-Junior, Jun-ior, Junior Gold, Sub-Veteran, Veteran or Senior Veteran. Cindy Pollock
Cindy Pollock started shooting trap under the tutelage of Donna and Harold Neely at the El Paso Trap and Skeet Club in the mid-'80s. She has competed at a majority of the trap clubs in New Mexico, and at events in Tucson, Az., Midland, Tx., and at the Grand American tournaments in Vandalia, Oh. To date, she has shot at 37,225 singles targets, 10,600 doubles targets, and 25,700 handicap targets in 34 years of competition. She has earned sev-eral class and Ladies trophies in New Mexico State tournament events. During this period she also served as an NRA-certified rifle, pistol and shotgun instructor. She also served several year as a Hunter Education Instructor with the New Mexico Depart-ment of Game & Fish. In an effort to increase the number of Sub-Junior and Junior shooters, she conducted fundraising events which resulted in the purchase of three Remington 11-87 12-gauge trap guns for full-sized shooters, and three Remington Youth/Ladies 20-gauge shotguns for beginning or smaller shoot-ers. Student groups she instructed include 4-H shooters in Dona Ana, Sierra and Otero counties, as well as serving as a Boy Scout as a merit badge councilor. Her activities have been supported by the Sunrise Lions Club in Las Cruces. As a Lifetime member of the Roadrunner Trap Club in Alamogordo, Cindy served as pho-tographer at the club shoots, and also at a number of State tourna-ments. She retired from her trap-related photographic activities in 2016.

Steve Pollock
2020 HOF Inductee
Steve Pollock was introduced to trap shooting by Cindy Pollock while they were dating. Also coached by Donna and Harold Neely, Steve has shot at 48,150 singles targets, 25,300 doubles targets, and 35,050 handicap targets, and was fortunate enough to win the State doubles Championship in 1991. He started understudying Bruce Axline as computer operator at the Roadrunner Trap Club in 1989, and subsequently worked every tournament at that club (except De-cember shoots) between 1991 and 2016 using both Accu-Trap soft-ware and 3S Trapshooting software. He also worked State Tourna-ment events in Raton (Whittington Center and Raton Trap Club), Albuquerque, and Truth or Consequences. In conjunction with these events, he contributed articles to Trap and Field over the same time period, with accompanying pictures by Cindy. He served as NMSTA Secretary-Treasurer from 1996 to 1998, continuing the ef-forts of ATA Secretary Bob Melton, NMSTA President Harry Ar-rington, and NMSTA Secretary-Treasurer Wanda Whitham in con-solidating the historical documentation of the NMSTA into one doc-ument, formerly identified as the NMSTA Handbook. The original document included the NMSTA By-Laws, Articles of Incorporation, State Teams, Hall of Fame award recipients, and an informal history of trap shooting in New Mexico. He was instrumental in rewriting the HoF guidelines in 1998, and served on the HoF selection com-mittee. He retired from primary work at the Roadrunner.
