On Wednesday evening, August 25, we will have a called business conference in room B-104 at 7:00 p.m. The purpose of the meeting is to entertain a motion by the Nominating Committee as it presents its slate of officers and committee members for the upcoming church year.

I call attention to this meeting because we will vote on a new volunteer position in the church. The staff and deacons recommend that the church create a position entitled Properties Supervisor. An overview is given below.

Description The Properties Supervisor will provide supervision over the buildings and grounds of Ocean View Baptist Church working with, but not replacing, the Properties Committee. The term will be for three years, eligible for successive terms. Rationale Due to the aging facilities, maintenance issues are occurring on a more frequent basis. A Properties Supervisor can be a valuable assistant to the Properties Committee by overseeing routine maintenance, reporting to the committee issues which need to be addressed, and overseeing projects on behalf of the committee. The person serving in this position will not be elected to the Properties Committee, but will be an ex-officio member of that committee. This will be a volunteer position. Responsibilities ● Work as a liaison between the custodial staff and the Properties Committee (PC) ● Oversee regular maintenance of the properties and grounds • Approve minor repairs without the consent of the PC (the cost for what is considered a minor repair will be set by the PC) • Bring the need for non-routine projects to the attention of the PC for their input and approval ● Secure bids on behalf of the PC for its approval ● Oversee any necessary projects on behalf of the PC ● Attend meetings of the PC whenever possible

Many churches have a similar position and I believe the time has come for our church to elect one as well. Ronnie Armeen is willing to accept this position should he be elected. His business and construction background make him uniquely qualified. He will step down from his position on the Properties Committee at that time.

Help Feed the Physically and Spiritually Hungry in KY! MSC missionaries, Lissa and Fitz Fitzwater, praise God for their Loaves and Fishes Ministry and for God’s provisions that allow them to serve Him, as they minister to needy individuals and families in the mountains of eastern Kentucky. Delivering the homemade meals (soup, bread and dessert) to physic- cally hungry folks affords Lissa and Fitz the opportunity to share God’s love to the spiritually hungry.

Their store gives boxes of food to families who are suffering in these difficult economic times. We hope you'll pick up a shopping card on the Literature Table and purchase some of the needed items and place your donations in the designated container. 2

Blessings,

Steve

In his book Dangerous Wonder, the late youth-ministry pioneer Mike Yaconelli debunks the idea that Christianity is “all about coloring within the lines and coloring well.” He writes: “God’s grace is so outside the lines of our understanding that we can only stand in awe and wonder. Christianity is not about learning how to live within the lines; Christianity is about the joy of coloring. The grace of God is preposterous enough to accept as beautiful a coloring that anyone else would reject as ugly.

“The grace of God sees beyond the scribbling to the heart of the scribbler—a scribbler who is similar to two thieves who hung on crosses on either side of Jesus. One of the two asked Jesus to please accept his scribbled and sloppy life into the kingdom of God… and he did. Preposterous. And very good news for the rest of us scribblers.”

What a week we had in VBS … taking a trip on HIGH SEAS was inspirational and uplifting. The kids, big and small, enjoyed a week full of GOD SIGHTINGS and tons of fun! A HUGE thank you to each and every volunteer for preparing and serving each night. Seeing the smiling faces on the kids was a direct result of you giving your time and energy to be with them. It was an honor to worship together each night, “from the most mature to the tiniest one” that was MY beautiful GOD SIGHTING for the week. To Tammi and Mike Cole, thank you for your months of prepara- tion, for your tireless execution and joyful hearts in getting VBS off the ground this year. You blessed so many with your servant’s hearts!! — Blessings to all, Dana Lidard
