Notes for 3D functionality
This 3D implementation provides for the Frame Packing (progressive and interlaced), frame-
compatible Side-by-Side (Half), and Top-and-Bottom 3D frame structures. You can use our 3D
Bitmap Conversion Tool to create your own 3D bitmaps from your left-eye/right-eye
stereographic image pairs. You can also download our sample 3D bitmaps for Frame Packing
(progressive and interlaced), Side-by-Side (Half), and Top-and-Bottom at both 1280 x 720 and
1920 x 1080 resolutions.
Installing 3D Bitmap Files (15.5 Megabytes) This archive contains four 3D bitmap files.
1. Download the 3D bitmap archive.
2. Unzip the files into a new folder in your PC.
3. Turn on 780 and press Preferences.
4. If COM is selected next to USB Mode, select Disk and power cycle 780.
5. Connect 780's USB port to your PC.
6. 780 should appear as a removable disk.
7. Copy unzipped bitmap files to 780.
Next, edit the UserPats.txt file in the 780 to make the new 3D bitmaps available in the 780 menu.
There should be a UserPats.txt file already included in the archive that you can copy from. Paste
the following lines to the end of the file:

After you have added the bitmaps and edited the UserPats.txt file, reboot the 780. Then you can
use the new 3D functionality as follows:
1. Press the signal type at the lower-left of the touch screen and select HDMI.
2. Press the timing format at the lower-center of the touch screen and select your desired
timing (1920x1080p, 1920x1080i, or 1280x720) and frame rate.
3. Press the image name at the lower-right of the touch screen and select one of the 3D
video patterns.
4. Press Home, Test Sink, 3D Output Test and select the proper 3D settings to enable the 3D
Vendor-Specific Infoframe.

Notes for 3D functionality
This 3D implementation provides for the Frame Packing (progressive and interlaced), frame-
compatible Side-by-Side (Half), and Top-and-Bottom 3D frame structures. You can use our 3D
Bitmap Conversion Tool to create your own 3D bitmaps from your left-eye/right-eye
stereographic image pairs. You can also download our sample 3D bitmaps for Frame Packing
(progressive and interlaced), Side-by-Side (Half), and Top-and-Bottom at both 1280 x 720 and
1920 x 1080 resolutions.
Installing 3D Bitmap Files (15.5 Megabytes) This archive contains four 3D bitmap files.
1. Download the 3D bitmap archive.
2. Unzip the files into a new folder in your PC.
3. Turn on 780 and press Preferences.
4. If COM is selected next to USB Mode, select Disk and power cycle 780.
5. Connect 780's USB port to your PC.
6. 780 should appear as a removable disk.
7. Copy unzipped bitmap files to 780.
Next, edit the UserPats.txt file in the 780 to make the new 3D bitmaps available in the 780 menu.
There should be a UserPats.txt file already included in the archive that you can copy from. Paste
the following lines to the end of the file:

2. Press the timing format at the lower-center of the touch screen and select your desired
timing (1920x1080p, 1920x1080i, or 1280x720) and frame rate.
3. Press the image name at the lower-right of the touch screen and select one of the 3D
video patterns.
4. Press Home, Test Sink, 3D Output Test and select the proper 3D settings to enable the 3D
Vendor-Specific Infoframe.

Enhanced Cable Test functionality. Cable Test nows tests 1080p at 12 bits per

USB Storage Flash Erase functionality. You can now erase the internal flash memory if it
becomes corrupted. Erasing the internal flash memory will allow you to format the 780's
removable disk.
Compressed audio test samples. Under Audio Pattern, a new menu has been added that
allows you to test compressed audio test samples such as pink noise, impulse, polarity,
etc. You will need to download the test samples audio clips from here and copy them to
the 780.

Issues corrected
This load corrects the following issues:
In HDMI, if the color space is changed from RGB to YCbCr 4:2:2, the Bit Depth buttons
are removed from the display. Leaving the color space set to 4:2:2, if you change the
Signal Type to RGB Analog and then back to HDMI, the Bit Depth buttons appear. With
this load, the Bit Depth buttons do not appear anymore. 780 YCbCr 4:2:2's Bit Depth is
12 bits and cannot be changed.
In Audio Pattern's Sine Wave Options, the +/- 3db buttons change the output by 6db.
With this load, the buttons change the output by 3db.
Upgrade Procedure 1. Turn on 780 and press Help.
2. Check SW and FPGA Version numbers and see if they match the ones shown above. If so,
you have the latest versions, so you don't have to continue with the procedure below. If not,
continue with the upgrade procedure below.
3. Download the latest load from the downloads webpage.
4. Turn on 780 and press Preferences.
5. If COM is selected next to USB Mode, select Disk and power cycle 780.
6. Connect 780's USB port to your PC.
7. 780 should appear as a removable disk.
8. Copy downloaded VP500app.bin, xilinx.bin, and bootstrp.bin files to 780. If you only need to
upgrade SW, just copy VP500app.bin and bootstrp.bin files.
9. After the files are copied over, use the "Safely Remove Hardware" function and then
disconnect the USB cable.
10. On 780, press Help on top right.
11. If needed, update FPGA first by pressing Update next to FPGA Flash. Confirm button will
show up.
12. Press Confirm to start updating FPGA. It takes about one minute to finish updating. When
the update finishes, you will see "Xilinx Updated" message as well as "Please reboot the unit
now" message.
13. Power cycle the unit.
14. Press Help on top right.
15. You should see that the FPGA Version number matches the one shown above.
16. Update SW by pressing Update next to Application Flash. Confirm button will show up.
17. Press Confirm to start updating SW. It takes about one minute to finish updating. When the
update finishes, you will see "Application Updated" message as well as "Please reboot the unit
now" message.
18. Power cycle the unit.
19. You should see that the SW Version number matches the one shown above.

Windows 8 1. Go to the Advanced Startup options. You can easily do this by holding down the Shift
key and clicking on Restart.
2. Select Troubleshoot.
3. Select Advanced options.
4. Select Startup Settings.
5. Click on Restart.
6. Press F7 for "Disable driver signature enforcement."
7. Turn on the 780.
8. Go to the Preferences menu and make sure USB Mode is set to COM. If not, select
COM and power cycle the 780.
9. Connect 780's USB port to your PC.
10. Go to the Device Manager.
11. Under Other devices, right-click on USB COM and select Update Driver Software.
12. Select Browse my computer for driver software.
13. Click on Browse button and browse to the location of the downloaded 780 USB COM
driver file and click on OK.
14. Click on Next.
15. When you see the Windows Security dialog box show up, click on "Install this driver
software anyway."
Windows 7 1. The first time you connect 780 to your PC in COM mode, the Installing device driver
software message will show up. Click on this message to see the status.
2. You will see a message that says "Searching Windows Update" for the USB COM port
driver. After a while, you will see "No driver found" message.
3. Click on Close.
4. Open Device Manager by launching Control Panel and selecting System and Security -
> System -> Device Manager.
5. Under Other devices, you might see USB COM.
6. Right-click on USB COM and select Update Driver Software.
7. Click on Browse my computer for driver software.
8. Click on Browse, select the folder that contains QD780.inf file, and click on OK.
9. Click on Next.
10. If a dialog box shows up asking whether or not to continue installing the driver, click
on "Install this driver software anyway."
Windows Vista 1. The first time you connect 780 to your PC in COM mode, the Found New Hardware
Wizard will show up. Select "Locate and install driver software (recommended)."
2. When asked if you want to allow Windows to search online for driver software for
your USBCOM Device, click on "Don't search online."
3. When asked to insert the disc that came with your USBCOM Device, click on "I don't
have the disc. Show me other options."
4. Click on "Browse my computer for driver software (advanced)."
5. Browse and select the directory where QD780.inf is located.
6. Click on Next.
7. If a dialog box shows up asking whether or not to continue installing the driver, click
on "Install this driver software anyway."
8. If you get a dialog box that says the file 'usbser.sys' is needed, then you will need to
either insert the Windows Vista installation disc or search your PC for usbser.sys file.
Windows XP 1. The first time you connect 780 to your PC in COM mode, the Found New Hardware
Wizard will show up. Select "Install from a list of specific location (Advanced)."
2. Click on Next.
3. Click on Browse and select the directory where QD780.inf is located.
4. Click on Next.
5. If a dialog box shows up asking whether or not to continue installing the driver, click
on Continue Anyway.
6. If you get a dialog box that says the file 'usbser.sys' is needed, then you will need to
either insert the Windows XP installation disc or search your PC for usbser.sys file.
Windows 2000 1. The first time you connect 780 to your PC in COM mode, the Found New Hardware
Wizard will show up. Click on Next.
2. Select "Display a list of known drivers for this device so that I can choose a specific
driver."
3. Click on Next.
4. Select Ports (COM & LPT) and click on Next.
5. Click on Have Disk.
6. Browse to the location of QD780.inf file and select it.
7. Click on OK.
8. Click on Next.
9. Click on Next.
10. If a dialog box shows up asking whether or not to continue the installation, click on
Yes.
