Some say that hybrid technology is a solution for the
uture. True, but not the whole truth. Volvo hybrids
roam the streets o many cities the world over. Our
solution presents the best results over a wide range
of applications from extreme high-density city
centres to trafc in smaller cities and suburbs.
The Volvo hybrid system is unique in many ways;
technically and in terms o perormance and reliability.
Parallel hybrid
The solution means that the diesel engine and I-SAM electricmotor work together under optimised conditions. The power
management system decides which power source should
be engaged, and to what extent, at every given moment.
And, as opposed to many other solutions, should a ailure
disable the electrical propulsion system, the bus can still
run on the diesel engine alone.

traic, and close to 25 % in intercity traic, compared to

The diesel engine starts when the
electric motor has brought the bus up
to speed. The two power sources
then work in tandem, with the electric
motors impressive low-rev properties
adding to the diesel engines superior
pulling power at higher revs.
