For the remainder of the year the7th grade math focus will be variable

    and algebraic expressions, translat-

ing words into math, simplifying al-gebraic expressions using proper-

ties, equations and their solutions, addition and subtraction equations,

    multiplication and division equa-

tions, integers, absolute value ofreal numbers and solving problems

    using rational numbers. These con-

cepts relate back to the following

    Georgia Performance Stan-dards: M7A1 a, b, c, d, M7N1 a, b,c, d and M7P5. Most of these con-

cepts are a review of lessons taught

earlier in the semester and serve as

bered problems with your child andcheck the answers in the solutions

section in the back of the

book. Word problems are essentialin mathematics, and problem solv-

ing skills are reviewed on an ongo-ing basis in the math classroom. A

great review is choosing one word

problem for you and your child tosolve and discuss. See if you solve

it the same way your child does!!

Students will be working on a

    cell reproduction project, which

    should demonstrate or model

    the stages/phases of mitosis.

In Life Science this week, we are

beginning a new chapter on cell

    reproduction. Students will be

    learning the different phases/

stages cells go through in order

for the cells to divide and repro-

    duce (mitosis and meiosis).

What s going on in science?

    and reading comprehension. As

always, all Language Arts / Liter-

    acy students need to continue

their reading logs. The goal for

the end of the semester is 1200

    pages.

    Language Arts/Literacy is an ex-

    tremely busy subject area for

    teachers. In Mrs. Cochrans class,

they are focusing on persuasivewriting, while in Mrs. Kelloggs

class they are creating books, as

    well as preparing for presenta-

tions on their Show and Tell Ex-

    pository works. In Mr.

    Chaunceys Read 180 class, they

just started a new workshop and

    are working on reading fluency
