Monday 4/20: Achieve 3000 - read “Libraries Have Still Got It!” Watch the video by clicking on the link at the bottom of the article. This article does not have a before reading poll or an after reading poll. Complete the activity and do your best. There is no thought question to go along with this article.

Tuesday 4/21: Performance Coach English Language Arts – Lesson 4 Analyze Literature

Read “Getting the Idea” on pages 40-42. Read the “Coached Example” on page 43. Answer the questions #1-5 on pages 44-45. Read the Lesson Practice passage “Another Case of Ingratitude” on pages 46-48. Answer the questions #1-6 on pages 49-51. When you answer the discussion question #6, be sure to cite textual evidence to compare the theme of gratitude in the poem and in the excerpt. Please write at least two paragraphs for your response.

Wednesday 4/22: Performance Coach English Language Arts – Lesson 4 Analyze Literature

Read “A Joint Effort” on pages 52-53. Answer questions #1-5 on pages 54-56. Be sure to write at least a paragraph for #5, and cite evidence from the text. Read the passage “The Day We Flew!” on pages 57-59. Answer the questions #6-10. Be sure to cite textual evidence from both passages in your essay.

Thursday 4/23: Performance Coach English Language Arts – Lesson 5 Articles Read “Getting the Idea” on pages 64-66. Read the coached example passage “Shark Tales” on page 67-68. Answer the questions #1-5 on pages 68-70. Read the lesson practice “The Quest for Speed” on pages 71-73. Answer the questions #1-6 on pages 74-77. Be sure to cite textual evidence for questions #4 & #6.

Friday 4/17: Go to the McIntosh County Schools website. Scroll down to the icons at the bottom of the page to click on “Teacher Web Page.” Search for our school name, MCMS, then select 7th grade. Click on my name, Cindy Jarriel. On my teacher web page, look on the left-hand side and click on “ELA Practice.” Under ELA Practice click on “Grammar Blast.” There you will find some grammar practice questions. Start with Grade 6 - Unit 6: Pronouns. Read the directions and then click on the red “Play” box. Keep trying until you score an 85 or higher. Then go to Grade 7 - Unit 7: Pronouns. Let me know what your highest score is on Grade 7-Unit 7: Pronouns by making a post in Google Classroom, Remind app (text to 81010 & my code is ac3k), or school email. If you have time, please try Grade 8 - Unit 8: Pronouns. ***In the Performance Coach English Language Arts book, choose the one lesson you believe you have the most correct answers. Take a picture of your answers and send it to me through the Remind app (text 81010 & my class code is “a3ck”) or email me the results.

Last week’s rollout with signing up for Khan Academy went decently well. For those of you with internet access, we will continue to work on assignments on Khan Academy. Remember that to see the new assignments that are posted each week, sign into Khan Academy, click your username at the top right corner, click “notifications”, and then you will see which assignments have been added to your account. Complete assigned Achieve 3000 article “The Brain Question.” Complete all parts of the article as we have this year each Wednesday in class. Type the answer to your “thought question” into the computer. Do your best always! Remember to do last week’s Achieve 3000 lesson “Inside Your Brain” if you haven’t already.

Thursday 4/23

Chapter 21- Control and Coordination- Section 1- The Nervous System- Read pages 287, 288,290, 292, 293. Interact with the text by answering “Reading Check” and “Picture This” questions. Follow directions as you complete the “Define Words,” “Think It Over,” and ”Foldables” activities Remember to complete the “Before You Read” and “After You Read” vocabulary sections.

Friday 4/24

Note: After completing page 293 in the stapled packet, the packet will no longer be used as is. There was an error in printing and the rest of the hard copy pages you have will no longer make sense as a complete section as the sections are incomplete. Our “copy engineers” were trying to hurry as they were helping many of us get the packets ready to be sent home with students on 3/16. The mistake wasn’t noticed prior to students leaving on Monday. There are only a few pages left…so all is good. The information will now be posted online in our Google classroom. Students will know how to get it. A hard-copy packet of the remaining pages that will be used for future lessons will be available at the middle school for those who don’t have internet access. A hard copy will not be needed until next week for my students. Students who don’t have the internet may simply interview a parent and write their answers on a piece of paper for Friday’s assignment (4/24/2020).

Friday’s Lesson: Writing Prompt:

In google classroom, create a google slideshow telling me what you already know and what you learn via research about Coronavirus/Covid-19. What is it? How does it spread? Who can catch it? How does it affect humans? How can you protect yourself? Please use the following website as a resource: https://www.cdc.gov/. Remember to turn in your assignment to me when complete. To answer the 5 questions, please use at least 6 slides. The first one should be the title of your slide show, your name and class period, and the website resources you used. Happy learning! Please feel free to send questions to me if you have any. We will be studying our “Immune System” next and I’m sure you will understand more about this virus after our lessons. Project Lead the Way - Ms. Galbreath Complete lessons 1-22 on Code.org. Once you have completed all 22 lessons, check ParentPortal to make sure I have updated your grades. You will be finished with PLTW once these are completed. Email me if you don’t see a change after two days. You may log on to Tynker and complete any zeros on the lessons you did not complete during the 3rd nine weeks. If you complete these, you MUST email me to let me know. Foundations of Business Management 7 - Mrs. Newhouse - students should continue to submit their math and writing assignments, then EVERFI tutorials - 2 courses, ONLY when all of these have been submitted, should students start on www.code.org - they have been sent their login information. Students should also look for an email later this week in reference to a class video conference using Google Meet. This email will include the link on how to join the class either 4/23 or 24. Read 180 - Mrs. Gajeske Neptune’s Honor or Among the Hidden on YouTube counts as your independent reading if you wish. Email paragraph summary to me as a GoogleDoc that includes plot, character, setting, and theme. Don’t forget to take SRC quizzes.

W3.22 (Real Book pgs. 166-167 and 20 minutes on software) Plan your Literary Essay. (POW) Plan, Organize, and Write. Your prompt: Choose two characters from either “The Lottery” or The Hunger Games, or one character from each. Write an essay analyzing the characters’ attitudes about their communities’ annual traditions. Send via GoogleDocs.

Rotation 2 Software and Independent Reading - (20 minutes on software and 20 minutes of eBook)

1. Practice Logs- Log in at least 20 minutes a day, 4 days a week onto you practice logs. Turn them into Google Classroom by Friday @12PM.

1. Push Ups-3X20

2. Body Weight Dips-3X12

Students will rotate through each exercise completing them the number of reps assigned with a 1:30 sec break after each set. They will do three sets. If the sets are hard, then modify to your level that you can do.

· If you can’t do a regular push up, then do pushups on your knees bringing your chest down as close to the floor as you can.

· On dips, attempt dips off something safe, and make sure you only dip until your upper arms are parallel to the floor.

· When doing curls focus on using biceps only do not rock or use your shoulders.

3. Curls W/ something heavy- 3X15

Tuesday (4-21-20)

(Lower Body)

1. Seated Squats-3X20

2. Step Ups- 3X20

3. Lunges- 3X20

Students will rotate through each exercise completing each one 20 times with a 1:30 sec break after each set. They will do three sets. If the sets are hard, then modify to your level that you can do.

· On seated squats pause on the seat for 3 seconds and then explode up, keep your arms out straight.

· Make sure to step with the opposite leg each time.

· Lunge out as far as you can, keeping your chest out and making sure your knee does not hit the ground.

Wednesday (4-22-20)

(Cardiovascular Fitness)

1. 20-walk and jog session

2. 2-minute cool down walk

During the brisk walk make sure that you are moving your arms and walking at a steady pace.

· During the jog, find a pace that you can do for 1 minute each set.

· During your cool down walk at a steady slow pace to bring your heart rate back down.

Thursday (4-23-20)

(Total Body)

1. Burpees- 3X10

2. Jumping Jacks-3X20

Students will rotate through each exercise completing each one 20 times with a 1:30 sec break after each set. They will do three sets.

· Jump up as high as you can, drop down and do a push up and repeat the process.

· Gorilla stomps squat low to the ground with your arms on the ground and jump up, extending your legs kicking back as far as you can and bringing your hands up to hit your chest.

(Cardiovascular & Total Body)

1. Wall Touches-3@40 secs

2. Shoulder Flies-3X20

Students will rotate through each exercise completing each one 20 times with a 1:30 sec break after each set. They will do three sets.

· Wall Touches, you will stand face the wall and jump up as far as you can try to touch the highest point of that wall repeatedly for 40 secs.

· With something heavy extend your arms our lateral until your shoulders are extended out flat then slowly bringing them back down.

· Sit up against a flat surface like you are sitting in a chair with your arms out and hold this position for 30 secs.

· Do pushups off something safe.

PE - Coach Lathem

MONDAY 10 pushups (modify by using knees if needed) 20 shoulder presses 10 chair dips

Do each exercise with 1 minute rest inbetween. Complete 3 sets

TUESDAY Walk at a brisk pace for 30 minutes without stopping

Walk as fast as possible. If you feel like you need to stop, just slow down.

WEDNESDAY 20 Squats

Do each exercise with 1 minute rest inbetween. Complete 3 sets

Media Center - Mrs. Shell Art - Ms. Nichols Greetings Art Students! How are you FEELING? The Covid-19 quarantine has spurred a multitude of emotions

from fear to laughter, closeness to isolation. Here’s where ART COMES IN!

Our next art assignment will be about drawing a cartoon illustrating a story about “an

emotion” you have personally experienced. A cartoon does not always have to be funny

and can be a powerful way to express our feelings. I asked you to watch the first ten

episodes of “Draw Every Day with JJK” on You Tube to prepare you for cartooning. I

hope you did that and practiced along!

The first thing you need to do is develop a character (many of you already have). I

suggest an animal or an insect that you like. I have an elephant character that I created

years ago and she can do absolutely anything from skydiving to scuba diving!!! I start

with a large circle for her body and a small circle for her head. I add big ears, a long

trunk, chunky flat feet and round eyes and “VOILA!” I have my elephant character and

she can do anything a human can do

Next, think about an emotional situation you have experienced during the quarantine

such as on-line learning, games you’ve enjoyed at home, wearing a mask to the grocery

store, storing piles and piles of toilet paper, etc. I am thinking about the day I drove to

Walmart for toilet paper and people wearing masks were lined up on the sidewalk near

the entrance. Each person was standing on an “X” placed six feet apart. I can draw a

four panel cartoon showing my elephant driving to Walmart for toilet paper and seeing

the line. FRUSTRATED, she drives home without toilet paper. Some stories can be told

in one drawing (called a gag cartoon)

Once you have decided on the story you want to draw, you will decide if it can be told in

one panel or more.

Start with pencil and paper. I use a ruler to draw out my panel or panels. If you do not

have drawing paper or blank copy paper, feel free to use lined paper or any surface you

desire. A torn open paper bag makes a delightful space to draw! Use what you have.

will look like and you’ve made your point clear, complete your story. Using an ink pen or

marker, ink it in. You can color your cartoon or leave it black & white.

● We have worked out the details to have a library book drop at the middle school

to get those overdue materials returned. The file cabinet has a designated drawer for “Book Return”.

● Please DO NOT remove books from the drawer. If you have a specific book that you want/need, and see it there, please contact me via email and I will see what I can do to accomodate.

● One last thing, PLEASE clean out your bookbags, under your bed, etc. and get those library books that you have returned by next month. I will definitely be giving some awards out for 100% turn in of library books...even to those 8th graders that are moving on to MCA. We are limited with our ability to replace lost books, so it helps us out to get those turned in.
