1. The purpose or this diary is to present a chronological narrative or the operations of ~he 3d Battalion, 7th Marines, let Marine Division (Reinforced}, Fleet Marine Force, during the perio~ l December 1951 to 31 December 1951.

2. During the period covered by this report the 3d Battalion 7th ~~rines occupied defensive positions on the Regimental MLi extending trom DT2B2467 to DT270441 from l December to 11 December. During this period the battalion conducted numerous outposts, contact and reconnaissance patrols. The battalion continued to improve its defensive position during this period. On ll December the battalion was relieved by the let Battalion, 1st Uarines and moved into Division Reserve in the vicinity of DT?Q9?.0B. Durin~ this neriod. 11 Deoember to 31 December, the battalion conducted Helicopter and numerous ground patrols and conducted intensive training in accordance with Regimental Training Order No. 7-51,

At 1905I Blmm mortars fired on four enemy in trench in the vicinity of DT 272459; results: 2 estimated enemy KIA. At 2400I personnel of "H" Company observed the lights of appr~ximately five enemy trucks at DT272483. The supporting artillery was notified. The visibility forward of the MI..R was generally good. The Battalion continued to improve its defensive position throughout the day.

5 December 1951

At 0400I "G" company's permanent outpost in -vne vicinity of DT278453 was fired upon by the enemy with three Burp guns from the vicinity of DT273455. The outpost did not return fire but called in 60~~ mort~~ fire on the enemy with unknown results. There were negative friendly casualties. At 0515I one eauad from "H" Company executed a reconnaissance Patrol to-DT285472. The patrol had reached its destination and was in-position by 0625I and observed three enemy building a bunker in the vicinity of D~278468. The visibility forward of the l:ILR was very good during the daylight hours. The Battalion continued to 1mprove ita defensive position throughou~ the day.
