Lucca’s life-long immersion in music and his ever-deepening life experiences have resulted in a potently affectingbody of work. His lyrics and vocal quality are instantly identifiable, even to those who have heard his music once ortwice. Raised in Waterford, Mich., Lucca began singing at age three and by 12 he was writing and playing in Detroit-area bands. As a teen, he lived in Orlando, where he worked for four seasons on the Disney Channel’s Mickey MouseClub alongside future superstars Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and Justin Timberlake.

It wasn’t until he turned 18 and moved to Los Angeles that he realized his true potential as a legitimate artist. Afterfamiliarizing himself with the landscape, Lucca began writing and recording music with some of the most talented artistsand players around. Lucca, who is based in L.A., went the internet route and sold his first two independent releases, hisdebut So Satisfied (1997) and the follow-up Strong Words, Softly Spoken (1999), through his own website. His firstcommercially distributed album, Shotgun, arrived in 2004. It was succeeded by his Rock Ridge Music debut CanyonSongs (2006) and Come Around Again (2008), Rendezvous With The Angels (2010) and his most recent release, UnderThe Influence, which came out in 2011.

Patel ConservatoryStudents to Rock Out Free Rock School workshop to be held on August 24

Patel Conservatory students are busy practicing in order to perform intwo free rock and roll concerts in August at the David A. Straz, Jr. Centerfor the Performing Arts.

Summer campers in the week-long Rock Star Retreat will perform atthe Shimberg Playhouse on Friday, August 9, at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.During the camp, students form bands, learn to play songs as a groupand study vocal skills and songwriting technique. At the concert, theseyoung musicians will play rock and roll hits. Rock Star Retreat summercamps, for youth in grades five through 12, are taught by Dean Tidey,TJ Glowacki, Mike Batton, Dave Rudolph and Dee Lynch.

Additionally, a free Rock School workshop, in which participantswill experience being members of a rock band, will be held onSaturday, August 24, from 10 to 11 a.m. Auditions for the fall sessionwill also be held in August and September. Hillsborough County LawnWatering Returns to Twice A Week, Effective August 1

As of Thursday, August 1, 2013, Hillsborough County residentswill have two days a week to water their lawns, instead of one.

The Southwest Florida Water Management District’s GoverningBoard voted on Tuesday to let all water shortage orders expire July31. With this action, Hillsborough County returns to its usual year-round restrictions.

The Governing Board allowed the water shortage orders to expirein response to significant improvements in aquifer and river levels asa result of this summer’s above-average rainfall. The region’s majorpublic water suppliers have also been able to capture and store largesupplies of water to meet the needs of residents.

The new schedule for watering established lawns and landscaping inunincorporated Hillsborough County, as well as the City of Tampa, is:

• Addresses ending in 0, 1, 2 or 3 - Mondays and Thursdays • Addresses ending in 4, 5 or 6 - Tuesdays and Fridays • Addresses ending in 7, 8 or 9 - Wednesdays and Saturdays • Locations with no address (common areas) and locations with

mixed addresses (such as office complexes and shopping centers)- Wednesdays and Saturdays All watering must be done before 8a.m. or after 6 p.m., and only once on your designated days.

The restrictions apply to all residents - not just customers of publicutilities - and most water sources. That includes private wells, andponds or lakes that are used as alternate irrigation supplies. Reclaimedwater customers are exempt from the water restrictions, althoughthese customers are encouraged to use only what they need.

Hand WateringHand-watering and low-volume irrigation of plant material other

than lawns or turfgrass may be done on any day and at any time.

New Sod and LandscapingNew sod and landscaping may be watered on any day for the first

30 days. On days 31-60, new sod and landscaping may be wateredapproximately every other day: even-numbered addresses on Tuesday,Thursday and Sunday; odd-numbered addresses, locations with noaddress and locations with mixed addresses on Monday, Wednesdayand Saturday. All watering of new sod and landscaping must be donebefore 8 a.m. or after 6 p.m. An irrigation system zone can only beoperated if the new sod or plant material covers at least 50 percent ofthat zone.

Improved Drinking Water on Tapfor South-Central HillsboroughCustomers; Tiny Bubbles MayMake Water Appear Cloudy

Hillsborough County water customers in south-centralHillsborough are now receiving higher quality water thanksto a new hydrogen sulfide removal facility at the Lithia WaterTreatment Plant.

In addition to noticing improved odor and taste, residentsmay also notice that the tap water occasionally appearscloudy white due to tiny oxygen bubbles. This may be moreapparent until the new process is further refined. The water issafe to drink. The bubbles are created by the new ozoneprocess that is removing hydrogen sulfide and itscharacteristic rotten egg smell from groundwater supplied tothe Lithia plant. The oxygen bubbles should dissipate afterthe water sits for a few minutes.

Water customers in south-central Hillsboroughcommunities, such as Apollo Beach, Brandon, Riverview,Ruskin and Sun City Center, began receiving water treatedwith ozone in early July. Ozone is a safe, affordable andefficient method used to disinfect water and improve taste andodor in treatment plants all over the world.

With the start-up and testing of the new ozone facility andplant improvements, Hillsborough County’s 20-year-oldhydrogen sulfide removal process is being retired, and with it,the occasional sulfur smell that emanated from the old facility.

Tampa Bay Water constructed the new hydrogen sulfideremoval facility. The construction and property acquisitioncost was approximately $34.7 million and was fundedthrough construction bonds and Tampa Bay Water’swholesale water rate.

Hillsborough County Public Utilities made severalmodifications at the Lithia plant in order to integrate the newozone treatment process into daily operations. Commissioners Seek Applications for Citizen Boards And CouncilsApplications Due August 15, 2013

Hillsborough County Commissioners are seeking residents to serve on several County citizen advisory boards and councils. Residents interested in seeking appointment must be registered voters inHillsborough County. These are voluntary positions and members serve without compensation. Applicants may apply to more than one board but may only serve on one board at a time. All applicants mustsubmit a completed Questionnaire for County Appointments and a Standards of Conduct form.

The deadline to apply is August 15, 2013. Appointments will be scheduled for a meeting of the Board of County Commissioners in September or October 2013.The forms are available in the Commissioners’ reception area on the second floor of County Center, 601 E. Kennedy Blvd. in downtown Tampa; by calling the Boards and Councils Coordinator at 813-

272-5826; or on the County’s website at: www.hillsboroughcounty.org. Click on the “Government” link on the top of the page, then the “Boards and Committees” sublink. The Questionnaire for CountyAppointments is in the middle of the page, along with the Standards of Conduct form. COUNCIL ON AGING—advocates on behalf of older adults for the betterment of their well-being and furnishes input to the Department of Family and Aging Services - Division of Aging Services andthe Board of County Commissioners on matters relating to the quality of life of older adults.

One position is vacant. Term is for two years. Position is specified as a faith-based community representative. Appointment to this Council is contingent upon passing a criminal background check. Meetingschedule: To be determined.

ELECTRICAL BOARD OF ADJUSTMENTS, APPEALS AND EXAMINERS—confirms the competency and integrity of applicants applying for electrical certification in the County, and takesdisciplinary action against those contractors who fail to comply with the Electrical Code.

ENTERPRISE ZONE DEVELOPMENT AGENCY—implements a strategic economic development plan for the University Area Enterprise Zone, which covers the area generally described as north ofthe City of Tampa boundary along Fowler Avenue, south of Bearss Avenue/Skipper Road, and between I-275 and Bruce B. FAMILY CHILD CARE HOME ADVISORY BOARD—annually reviews and advises the County Commission on recommended amendments to the Family Child Care Home’s Licensing Ordinance orthe Rules and Regulations Handbook, including recommending and assisting the local licensing agency in the development and implementation of training materials for child care personnel; advises the locallicensing agency on matters of licensing policy, procedures and priorities; and proposes additional rules and regulations regarding the intent and purpose of the Ordinance.

Positions are specified as: 1) & 2) a parent who has a child enrolled in a licensed family child care home; and 3) & 4) a licensed family child care homeoperator representing all segments of the community. HEALTH CARE ADVISORY BOARD—improves accessibility and efficiency of care for medically-poor residents of Hillsborough County through recommendations to the Board of CountyCommissioners for fund allocation, coordination, planning, and monitoring of health care delivery systems.

One position is vacant. Term is for four years. Position is specified as a participant in the Hillsborough County Indigent Health Care Plan. Meeting schedule: Monthly, third Thursday, 3 p.m.HEALTH COUNCIL OF WEST CENTRAL FLORIDA, INC.—works in collaboration with community-based organizations to identify, address and resolve health care issues of local concern. The Council

HISTORIC RESOURCES REVIEW BOARD—serves as an architectural review board for the protection of historic resources in unincorporated Hillsborough County. It recommends archaeological andhistorical sites to the County Commission for landmark designation and reviews alterations and new construction on landmark sites or districts.

Two positions are vacant. Terms are for three years. Positions are specified as: 1) an historian and 2) a property owner of a site listed on the Florida Master Site File. Citizens appointed to this Board mustreside in the unincorporated area of Hillsborough County. Meeting schedule: Monthly, third Tuesday, 3 p.m.

HISTORICAL ADVISORY COUNCIL—supports and facilitates a uniform historical marker program throughout the County, including the cities of Plant City, Tampa, and Temple Terrace, as well asorganizations and other agencies who request assistance. It also provides the Board of County Commissioners with support that complements the goals of historical preservation and education inHillsborough County.

One term is expiring. Term is for three years. All members shall possess expertise in significant and relevant historical matters. In making appointments, due consideration shall be given to achieving ademographic balance among the appointed. No member shall serve for more than two full consecutive terms. More than one half of a term is deemed to be service for a full term. A member who has servedtwo full consecutive terms shall be eligible for reappointment after at least three years of non-membership. Meeting schedule: Quarterly, 4:30 p.m.

HOSPITAL AUTHORITY—monitors the lease entered into in 1997 with Florida Health Sciences Center, Inc., which permits FHSC to occupy the Authority’s Davis Island property and transfers ownershipand operation of Tampa General Hospital. Monitoring the hospital’s overall condition, indigent and charity care reports and MBE contract participation, and reviewing citizen grievances who feel they weredenied care due to the inability to pay are the primary obligations of the Authority.

PLANNING COMMISSION—the Hillsborough County City-County Planning Commission is an independent consolidated planning agency, lead by appointed citizens, which serves all the citizens ofHillsborough County by providing a vision for improving the quality of life. The Planning Commission and its staff serve as agents within the community to promote and coordinate the involvement of allpeople in comprehensive long-range planning, growth management, transportation, and environmental protection. The Planning Commission makes recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners,Tampa City Council, Plant City Commission, and Temple Terrace City Council regarding land use, community planning, capital improvements, urban design, and other comprehensive issues.

Patel Conservatory Open Dance Program students from tap, jazz, hip-hop,contemporary, and Flamenco will come out of the classroom and on to the stageto show off what they’ve learned. This is an excellent opportunity to see asample of the adult dance classes for anyone who may be considering taking adance class and for anyone who enjoys dance.
