This week some Rockin' Rockets took the headlines as awards, scholarships and the Unity Alumni Hall of Fame 2020 announcements came out and were posted. From the Class of 1987, Army Brig General Charles Kemper, from '93 Troy Cardinal and in '83 Lisa Flavin all shared stories about the profound impact of being a Rocket and becoming the best ver-sion of themselves as they maximized their God given talents with teachers and coaches guiding them during High School.
Some seniors who filled out paperwork from the Class of 2020 were also tapped with honors as scholarships were announced online (slide show found at UnityRockets.com) Tyler Gadbury won from the Unity Alumni Hall of Fame and was the male singer to win from the Unity Music Boosters with the Polly Anderson Scholarship with plans to go to the U of I getting the Acorn Equality Fund-Luke Scholarship. The female singer selected was Abigail Dodd, and she got a Parkland Trustee Scholar-ship, too. Karson Ewerks got Unity Athletic Booster's Male Athlete Scholarship as Elyce Knudsen received the Female Athlete Scholarship. Karson got the C.J. Parks scholarship and will share the Tolono Lions Club Scholarship with
Toria Cunnington who also got the AMOA Wayne E Hesch scholarship. Fertilizer Dealer Supply in Philo se-lected Maggie Woodworth to get assistance with college tu-ition along with Karson and Savannah Hughes, who got the FFA Champaign County Farm Bureau scholarship and won from the Sidney Lions Club with Gabe Steele (Frank and Yvonne Gruss-ing Scholarship) as Tucker Catron got the Dr Martin Koeck scholarship. The Joe Summerville, Brian Cardinal and J.D. Schulthes scholar-ships went to Karson Ewerks. Lt Harley Ruthledge's and Elizabeth W Osborn's tuition assistance went to McKenzie Fisher. Kenneth Freeland's scholarship went to Kaitlyn Fink. Tolono Park District's selected Rachel King as their winner who also got a Park-land Trustee's Scholarship, which was also awarded to Jana Ping. James Black's scholarship went to Allison Griffin and Herschel Wood's to Addisyn Cloin, who also got the Beatrice Tucker Me-morial and Gold Star Mission scholarship. Kyleigh Dubson was the Student Council member tapped to receive the Bob Aimone Scholarship and the Caring for Commu-nities Scholarship remem-bering the Friedlein Family. She also got the Richardson Dean Scholarship from Ozark
Christian College. Resa El-lison's Memorial for Natasha Plummer. National Honor Society scholarship money went to Caroline Rink and Allyson Kennedy who got the Provost's Gold Scholarship at Baylor University. Judy and Bill O'Neill's scholarship chose Karson Ewerks as well as Martina Miebach, Riley Millsap (who also got a Park-land Trustees Scholarship) and Kylie Decker, who also got the Annie Sue Daly Girls Track Scholarship, as well as three awards from Eastern Illinois University. Aliyah McDaniel also plans to have a track scholarship at EIU and received a Community Am-bassador Scholarship. Jalyn Powell's softball scholarship at Lewis University includes the LaSallian Success Schol-arship. Alyana Reynolds will attend the University of Wisconsin with a Presidential Gold Scholarship and Daniel Scott got a U.S. Bowling Con-gress Scholarship as well as the Freeze Scholarship from Immanuel Luthern Church in Flatville. Ashlyn Yeazel will attend Eastern Michigan tuition free with her scholar-ship. Jared Routh will go to Carthage College with nu-merous athletic awards and Jordan Clark to Wartburg College with a full academic scholarship. Connor Eastin will go to SIU with a few scholarships. Destyne Dun-
can has a volleyball schol-arship to Missouri Valley College. Savannah Daly's Girls Athletic Scholarship went to Anna Jean Anderson who also will get assistance from the Tolono Masonic Lodge to go to Parkland with healthcare as a career goal. Congratulations to the Class of '20 scholarship winners!
