Weekly Virtues

Our virtues for weeks seven and eight will focus on reliability and courtesy.

Reliability means that others can depend on you. You honour commitments and give your best to every job. You are responsible. You don’t forget and you don’t need to be reminded. Other people can relax knowing things are in your reliable hands.

COVID – 19 Requirements for School Entry

As of today 8 March 2021, there have been easing of restrictions across the state. Therefore, please note the following information below.

Parents and carers are able to enter school grounds but should continue to follow COVID-safe practices, including social distancing between adults of 1.5 metres.

Just a reminder that all visitors and parents entering school grounds are required to sign in via our QR code reader and are also required to sign our visitor’s book and read the COVID-19 requirements sheet.

Parents will be most welcome to come on site and watch the Easter Hat Parade on 1 April 2021.

School Improvement Plan (SIP)

Our School Improvement Plan 2021-2024 will be completed by the end of this term and uploaded to our school website. I would like to thank the entire staff for their contribution to this valuable planning document.

Head Lice

Please check your children’s hair as head lice have been found in some of the classes.

Working Hard in the Hawks Room

Kalani entertained Mrs Bray last week with a wonderfully constructed story. Well done Kalani.

It has been reported that Lachlan is the type of guy that never gives up trying. We admire this kind of drive Lachlan. Keep up the good work.

Role Models in the Community

On Thursday 25 February, the Raymond Terrace bus was very late. After it arrived at Raymond Terrace, we received a phone call from a teacher at Raymond Terrace Public School who wanted us to know how lovely the Mayes family is. They gave up their time to walk another student home from the bus stop along with the teacher. She was particularly impressed with Will and his maturity and leadership in organising and looking after everyone.

What a fantastic story to hear about a lovely group of students!

Well done Mayes family!

Attendance

Just a reminder that it is important to let the school know when your children are absent from school. If there is a build-up of unexplained absences we are required to report it to the Home School Liaison Officer. To inform the school of an absence, you can let us know via:

• The Skoolbag App • Calling the office directly • Emailing the office • Seesaw to your classroom teacher

Thank you for your cooperation in the matter.

School Cross Country

Just a reminder that the school cross country will be held this Thursday 11 March. All students have been practicing at school and will participate on the day. Only those students that complete the race within the qualifying time will attend the zone cross country event.

The event will be held on school grounds. We ask that the children wear their full sports uniform with suitable joggers, and bring plenty of water.

Good luck everyone!

Zone Soccer Trials

Good luck to Myles, Will and Cohen who have been chosen to represent the school at the zone soccer trials this Friday at the Tomaree Sports Complex. I am sure the boys will try their hardest and do a great job representing Millers Forest Public School.

Good luck boys!

Premier’s Reading Challenge

The NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge (PRC), commenced earlier this week, and provides a venue

for students from Kindergarten to Year 9 to showcase their passion for reading.

The event encourages students to read between 20 and 30 books, depending on their skill level, from a

reading list of quality literature.

The challenge will run until 20 August for students.

The Premier said that almost 9 million books were read during the challenge last year, a 5% rise from

the previous years.

NSW Education Minister, Sarah Mitchell, also said 165 more schools joined the event last year.

“The ability to read well is one of education’s greatest gifts, and everyone involved should be proud that the challenge continues to grow and

encourages all students to explore the many benefits that result from a love of reading,” she said.

This year, there is a particular focus on the representation of Indigenous authors and illustrators on the reading list, with Bundjalung woman, author,

and illustrator Dr Bronwyn Bancroft providing this event’s promotional artwork.
