Week Beginning – Monday 8 th June – Year One Spelling Activities We are going to look at some different spelling rules over the next few weeks. One of the rules is English words hardly ever end with the letter v. The letter e usually needs to be added after the v – love, glove. I always say to the children the v is wobbly with the point at the bottom. It would fall over without the e after the v. The spelling words this week are – love live move have give gave five Spelling Task 1 – We would like you to write down these words but use a different colour to write the ve at the end of the word love. Now write a sentence to tell someone what each word means. Spelling Task 2 Let’s check the spellings we did yesterday. We are now going to ‘Look, say, cover, write, check’. Let’s LOOK carefully at yesterday’s spelling. SAY it out loud. Now COVER it and see if you can WRITE it without looking. We are now going to CHECK to see if we spelled our word correctly. With your best writing, you are now going to write each word 3 times. (see attachment) Can you think of any more words with ve at the end? Make a list of any you or your family can think of. Spelling Task 3 – There are 7 words that you have this week to learn. Can you put each word into a rainbow using rainbow colours? .
