A Note from

Bro. Woody This last weekend I had the privilege of going to East

Texas Baptist Encampment with our students for the Launch Retreat. At the time of writing this it is

my first evening back home and I am enjoying a cup

of coffee that Josiah got me for my birthday, reflect-

ing on the last three days. At the end of it all, I can’t

think of ANYWHERE else I’d rather have spent my

time, and ANYTHING else I’d rather have done. There are no awards or accolades from the

adult world that bless me like hearing from the

teenagers. Studying Hebrews 11 through four wor-

ship sessions, I watched the Holy Spirit give light

and life to our group. They are so eager and as a re-sult we had so many precious discipleship conversa-

tions. One particular conversation that I will always

remember with a smile came from Jason Calicott’s

group. The pastor had just preached on Hebrews

11:13-16 and did a wonderful job of communicating

that this world is not our home. Jason and the boys were discussing scriptures pertaining to our ascen-

sion into heaven. We asked Brian Tatum for his in-

put on the subject. You could just see their minds

expand with wonder and awe as Jason and Brian

spoke of what we have to look forward to as believ-ers.

I thank God for the leaders that He gave me

for this trip. J-Daddy, Jennifer Herrington, and Mi-

chelle Webb played, mentored, and walked alongside

these students. I have not had this conversation

with them but if anyone asks them about their time this weekend I guarantee they will respond in a

manner that is similar to what I’m writing to you as

the Church.

I love our students. I am not always able to

use the word “precious” when describing our stu-dent group. They would make fun of me if they knew

I was describing them in this way. But they are pre-

cious souls that God is shaping and molding for use

in His Kingdom. Each of these students are

“fearfully and wonderfully made” and I praise God all

the more because I know them. I write these things to you because I want you to pray for them. Pray for

their continued growth and for faith placed in Christ

alone. For those that want to venture further you are

invited to come build relationships with these teens

on Sunday and Wednesday nights. More than previ-ous generations, teenagers experience DNA-

changing discipleship in the context of a life-on-life

relationship. I am thankful to those who stand in the

trenches with me every week and for those who will

answer that call for years to come. What a great God

we serve, that He allows us to be part of advancing His Kingdom through the next generation!

Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave,

be strong.

--1 Corinthians 6: 13--

Researcher Spencer Silver from 3M was curious

about what would happen if he mixed an unusual

amount of monomer into a polymer-based adhe-

sive he was working on. The result was an adhe-

sive that would “tack” one piece of paper to an-

other and even re-stick, without leaving any resi-

due on the second piece of paper. The company

had no use for the new adhesive until 3M chemist

Arthur Fry began having problems in the choir

loft. The slips of paper he used to mark pages in

his hymnal often fluttered to the floor, leaving

him frantically searching for his place. Then he

remembered Silver’s adhesive. Fry’s better book-

mark soon metamorphosed into the handy Post-it

Notes that have become a fixture in offices

throughout the world.

It’s very often true in life that some of the greatest

things are born out of challenges. Had Arthur Fry

not reached a point of frustration with his hymnal,

offices all over the globe today might not be filled

with those florescent little sticky notes that have

now become so commonplace. Instead of giving

up when you encounter a challenge or a struggle

in your life, find out what God is doing, and as

Experiencing God teaches, join Him. Seek Him

and ask Him what He wants to accomplish

through the struggle or trial. When you have the

courage to face life’s challenges head-on, you

never know the impact it will have—on you and

on others! Pray today that God would give you

the courage not to back down when challenges

come your way.

You are loved,

Bro. Woody

Beloved Church Family

All of your prayers, phone calls, text messages, e-mails, cards, and hugs have been used to provide comfort and encourage-

ment to us as we walk through the journey of having a young granddaughter leave this world and enter heaven to be in the

presence of our Savior. You have honored Him as you have shared precious thoughts of Maddie and words of comfort. It is

our prayer, that as others have seen you being the body of Christ, He alone will be given the glory. Thank you doesn’t begin

to express what it has meant to us to have First Baptist share in this time of sorrow and rejoicing with us. We are truly

blessed to have such a loving church family. Bill and Sue

Lamentations 3:22 “The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is

your faithfulness. ‘The LORD is my portion,’ says my soul, ‘therefore I will hope in Him.’”

Dear Church Family,

A couple of times I have shared with you that the task of the biblical exegete is to: find what the text meant to the original writer and recipients and then to find how that applies to us (and to me) in the present. To do this, we have been digging into the word of God every Sunday morning, Sunday night, and Wednesday night. We have been thinking together about some of the important biblical pieces for us during the interim, taking a new look at the book of Ephe-sians, and looking at some of the prayers found in the Bible. We are seeking nothing less than life transformation. That's a worthy goal! Would you come and join us? Would love to see you.

Irma and I have been truly blessed to be a part of the First Baptist Family. You have welcomed us with love and warm hospitality. We are doing our best to learn about your lives and to learn your names. Continue to be patient with us and when you see us remind us of your name. We are excited about what we see the Lord doing among us. Our interim time is going to be a great time of growth and preparation for the pastor that God will bring us in His time.

See you Sunday,

Brother Donnie
