A Heavy Burden
Sometimes in life we carry around burdens that are too
heavy to bear. I mean, really, we try, we do. We make attempts
to ensure that we can do it. We put on a brave face, try to hide
things beneath a façade, and we want to let the world know we
are fine. However, sometimes people don’t have to look too
hard to notice that we are not fine. We are trying to carry
around something that is too heavy, too big and something
we’ve got no business carrying around.
I thought about this when I noticed this Geo Metro car-
rying a four-wheeler on its top. I’ve seen some pretty interest-
ing things being hauled in my close to forty years, but I’ve
never seen this before. I’ve seen deer on top of cars, mattresses,
Christmas trees, but no four-wheelers. This thing was only tied
down with ratchet straps. What would really happen if this car
had to make a sudden stop? I would say either the four-wheeler would come off or its weight would flip the car. Let’s
be honest: the four-wheeler is almost as big as the car!
Sometimes in life we try to carry around things we have no business carrying around, but we don’t have to. The
Psalmist said “Cast your burden upon the Lord, and He will sustain you…” Jesus said “’Come to Me, all who are weary
and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in
heart; and you shall find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy, and My load is light’” (Mt. 11:28-30).

Do not be like the Geo Metro from a spiritual perspective. Too many times we try to bear things we shouldn’t
be attempting to bear and carry. Bad things happen when we try to handle these things ourselves. Let Jesus deal with
the heavy burdens before someone has a spiritual wreck.
