I had a chance to find out a lot about Grace Eliza-

beth Fox. She was born on January 24, 2004 and is

the proud daughter of Kori Lindstrom and Don

Fox. She also has three brothers named Jake, Tris-

tan, and Zach. Some of her interests include draw-

ing, basketball, volleyball, and soccer. You can

see that she is a fan of sports. Her favorite color is

blue and she hopes to become a professional chef

as her career. I am glad to have found out so much

about Grace.

Hey, did you hear about the kidnapping? – Probably not, he’s still sleeping.

Which runs faster, hot or cold? – Hot. Everyone can catch a cold.

Why was six afraid of seven? – Because seven eight nine (7 ate 9)

Why did the baseball player get arrested? – Because he stole second base.

Why was the dolphin so sad? – Because it had no porpoise in life.

What did the flower say to the bike? - Petal!

What did the stamp say to the envelope? - Stick with me we’ll go places!

What did the math book tell the pencil? - I have a lot of problems.

Why did the tomato turn red? - It saw the salad dressing!

How do you get a peanut to laugh? - You crack it up!

I had the pleasure of interviewing the wonderful Ethan Fye. I asked him many ques-

tions about himself. I asked Mr. Fye when he was born. This child answered with

August 26, 2003. I also asked what he wanted to be when he gets older and he told me

that he wanted to join the Army and live in Shan-Francisco. He told me that if he had

the choice to pick his eye color, they would be blue. Ethan says that his favorite book

tis The Maze Runner. Ethan’s favorite color is red, and his favorite movie is I Am

Legend. His favorite band is The Foo Fighters. His favorite part of being in junior

high is that he gets to walk around in between classes. His favorite teacher is Mrs.

Modica. Ethan’s favorite food is nachos and his best friends are Marey and Kierra

Lynn. I hope you get to know Ethan like I did.

Sadie. Sadie was born on January 30, 2003. She is the daughter of Ra-

chel Crain and Mike Mowery. Her favorite thing to do is talk to Ne-

vaeh, and she is escorted everyday to her 9th hour class by Nevaeh.

Her favorite foods are nachos and tacos and she enjoys eating constant-

ly. Sadie’s favorite person in the entire world is the one and only Ne-

vaeh Roberts.

grade student, Selena Huriostigui. Selena lives with her mother Vi-

aney and their dog. Selena’s favorite teacher is Mrs. Daughenbaugh

and her best friend is currently Alivea Peight. Selena’s favorite color

is pink. Selena has also said that soccer is her favorite sport. Before

attending Lena-Winslow, Selena was enrolled at Heritage Middle

School.

My name is Alex Daughenbaugh and I would like to be a Student Leader for

the 2015- 2016 school year. Last year, I was able to be a Student Leader and I had a

lot of fun. There are many reasons why I should be one this year and I also have a lot

of plans to improve the school and the community.

I have done a lot of things in the past to help out many different people. I am a

member at the United Methodist Church in McConnell, and every year I help out at

bible school and volunteer for our spaghetti supper and our other luncheons. Last year

in Student Leadership, I went down to the elementary school and helped the little kids

become better readers. I also try to pick up trash whenever I see it around my house.

Finally, I am involved in many Food Drives every year and I will keep doing that be-

cause I enjoy it.

I have many ideas to help the school and the community if I would be a Student

Leader. I would like to help raise money for cancer research. It is sad knowing that

there are many people suffering from cancer even in our little town. . Also, it would be

fun to arrange a food drive to help fill our town’s food pantry. There are many people

starving in this world and I would like to collect food for them. It would also be fun to

work at the Freeport soup kitchen. I also think we should raise money for Autism

Awareness. I know two kids with Autism and it is sad to see what they are going

through. It makes me really sad that they are in the middle of elementary school and

they can’t even speak. Last year, we raised money for Down Syndrome and I think we

should keep doing that, too because they have to go through the same kinds of things

that kids with Autism do. Finally, we should make bullying PowerPoints for the kids

in the elementary because they need to know what they could do to the kids that they

are bullying.

Overall, I think I am a good fit for this opportunity because I have always

worked hard to maintain high grades and help people out. I would like to continue or-

ganizing fundraisers and activities to help our town and other needy communities.

Thank you for considering me for this great opportunity.

Hello my name is Taylor Ditzler Amill. I would like to be a part of this year’s student Leadership

committee 2015. I enjoy helping others especially for our school and community. I am always available

for anything you will need help with. I also have great fundraiser ides. If I get in I could even come up

with more. Let me explain why I want to be a student leader.

I want to be a student leader because I enjoy helping others. I have help with many events in the past

years. I helped at the Lena Living Center for a special dinner event. I had to make food and serve the

elderly and their relatives food, drinks, and desert. I have also helped with the drive through benefit to

raise money for cancer at the Lena Living Center. I have also cleaned up trash with my brother outside

of Stockton IL. The last thing I helped with was Winslow River Days. I cleaned up trash at the park Dis-

trict.

Next I have had some experience with fundraising. Some ideas I have are Bake Sales. We could

Bake treats and have a stand set up for people by treats. I could be there for anything because I live

right across the street from school. I am not in sports accept for soft ball so I have a lot of time for stu-

dent leadership.

Finally that is why I want to be a student leader. I am willing to do whatever it takes to do this. I get a/b

average every quarter. I hope u like my essay. Thank you

Student leadership is a great opportunity for kids. Being involved in this gives kids many key skills for

life such as teamwork and helping others. I would like to be a student leader because I am a natural leader, for

example in small groups I help others and I am good at giving direction. I also enjoy community involvement such

as helping at 4-H and other organizations. I have been a career straight A student, last year I was awarded the

President’s award, I have received the 4-H equine sportsmanship trophy two years running, and have shown dedi-

cation and commitment to my sport of riding by qualifying for the East Coast Level 1 Novice Championships in

Lexington, Virginia.

This summer I had the opportunity to host a foreign exchange student from Japan. Also I volunteered at

the public library, painted garbage cans for the Stephenson County Fair Board , helped with dairy days and clean

lunch tables at school.

I feel I would be a good addition to the Student Leadership Committee because I have some fun ideas to

improve our Junior High experience. My first idea would be to develop a science club that would meet weekly in

the lab and do experiments along with discussing different science concepts. In order to accomplish this, I would

contact Mrs. Modica and Mrs. Hinderman to collaborate on ideas and projects that might be helpful to the commu-

nity and how to get students excited about science.

Another idea of mine is a snow removal group for the elderly. We would survey the community for

names and addresses of people in need. We would then develop a phone tree to use on snowy days and arrange to

meet to shovel sidewalks, driveways and scrape off cars.

I have many more ideas such as foreign language club, band instrument funding, and funding for low

income families to play sports. I hope we can use some of these ideas.

Thank you for your consideration. I hope you find my abilities and past experience useful. I look forward

to hearing your decision.

Mrs. Fry- Good luck in High School. I will miss you all. P.S you all better get fantastic math grades next year.

Mr. Smar- Listen more than you talk.

Mrs. Smar- Dream big.

Miss. Hinderman- Thank you for making my transition to Lena so easy. Thank you for a great year.

Mrs. Daughenbaugh- Strength lives within life’s hardest strug-gles.

Mr. Geisman- I did not get to know all of the eighth graders this year in the short time that I have been here. The ones I got to know I really liked and respected. I feel like you are a great group of students on the rise. You will soon be our leaders and I think many of you will be leaders in your chosen profession. Good luck and don’t forget to stop in and say hi!

Mrs. Thill- Be smart, use common sense, and have no regrets. Good luck, you will be missed.

Mr. A- Always leave things better than you found them.

Ms. Price- Give up on your frustrations- but never on your hopes. Give up thinking about your setbacks- but never on your goals. Give up worrying about your past- but never on your future!

Mr. Stich- Good luck in High School. You have great potential.

Mrs. Stich- See you next year!
