However, in order for one to study and accomplish Buddhist practice there are three essential factors that are required. They are the three kindnesses or traditionally so-called, the three good
guides or teachers. Ekai Roshi will discuss the significance of kindness from a Zen perspective.Ekai Korematsu Roshi is the Abbot and resident teacher of Jikishoan Zen Buddhist Community. Born in Japan in 1948, Roshi studied humanities and Buddhism in Denmark and USA, and was ordained a monk by Kobun Chino Roshi in 1976 in the USA. Roshi received dharma transmission from Ikko Narasaki Roshi in 1986. His formal Buddhist training encompassed twelve years at three Japanese monasteries - Eiheiji, Zuijo and Shogoji. This talk is an introduction to the Buddhist explanation of what is meditation, how it can help, and how to start a meditation practice.Michael Joseph studied over many years with the Society’s spiritual guide and founder, Venerable Geshe Acharya Thubten Loden. He is a regular teacher and director of the Melbourne centre.

BUDDHISM AND MEDITATION FOR BEGINNERS - FROM 1.30-3PM SUNDAY 24
NOVEMBER FOR THREE WEEKS
If you are new to Buddhism or meditation, and would like to understand the main ideas and learn some basic meditation, this three-week course provides a quick introduction.
No matter what your religious (or non-religious) background, you can apply Buddha’s teachings to your daily life, which can help change your way of thinking and being in the world.

You will be taught the 1-2-3s of how to get set up and get started with a regular meditation practice.
PATH TO ENLIGHTENMENT – 4-5.30PM SUNDAYS

It explains the stages of spiritual practice from the beginning to more advanced meditation and practical teachings on achieving enlightenment - the greatest expression of human potential.
The Buddhist tradition teaches that all happiness and unhappiness depend on mind, and meditation works directly on our mind, shaping it and guiding its future continuum.

SPECIAL MAHAMUDRA RETREAT 19-25 JANUARY 2020
Exploring mind’s deepest nature
‘Whatever appears is all the nature of mind.’ – Je Maitripa
Mahamudra meditation is both simple and profound. By allowing our mind to settle into its natural, uncontrived state, we become familiar with the conventional nature of mind, sometimes described as a state that is merely clear and knowing.
Within this peaceful, pure and clear state, we can begin to approach mind’s deepest nature – that it is merely a dependent arising, with no truly existent faults, stains or limitations.
This retreat is suitable both for beginners and experienced meditators.
Les Sheehy, director of the Tibetan Buddhist Society’s Perth centre, who received profound teachings from high masters and has practised these methods for many years, will lead the retreat.
