This document is an agreement (“Agreement”) between You, the end user, and Enterasys Networks, Inc. on behalf of itself andits Affiliates (“Enterasys”) that sets forth your rights and obligations with respect to the software contained in CD-ROM orother media. “Affiliates” means any person, partnership, corporation, limited liability company, or other form of enterprise thatdirectly or indirectly through one or more intermediaries, controls, or is controlled by, or is under common control with theparty specified. BY INSTALLING THE ENCLOSED PRODUCT, YOU ARE AGREEING TO BECOME BOUND BY THE TERMS

OF THIS AGREEMENT, WHICH INCLUDES THE LICENSE AND THE LIMITATION OF WARRANTY AND DISCLAIMEROF LIABILITY. IF YOU DO NOT AGREE TO THE TERMS OF THIS AGREEMENT, RETURN THE UNOPENED PRODUCT TOENTERASYS OR YOUR DEALER, IF ANY, WITHIN TEN (10) DAYS FOLLOWING THE DATE OF RECEIPT FOR A FULLREFUND.

Enterasys will grant You a non-transferable, non-exclusive license to use the machine-readable form of software (the “LicensedSoftware”) and the accompanying documentation (the Licensed Software, the media embodying the Licensed Software, and thedocumentation are collectively referred to in this Agreement as the “Licensed Materials”) on one single computer if You agreeto the following terms and conditions:

1. TERM. This Agreement is effective from the date on which You open the package containing the Licensed Materials. Youmay terminate the Agreement at any time by destroying the Licensed Materials, together with all copies, modifications andmerged portions in any form. The Agreement and your license to use the Licensed Materials will also terminate if You fail to

comply with any term or condition herein.2. GRANT OF SOFTWARE LICENSE. The license granted to You by Enterasys when You open this sealed packageauthorizes You to use the Licensed Software on any one, single computer only, or any replacement for that computer, for internaluse only. A separate license, under a separate Software License Agreement, is required for any other computer on which You oranother individual or employee intend to use the Licensed Software. YOU MAY NOT USE, COPY, OR MODIFY THE LICENSEDMATERIALS, IN WHOLE OR IN PART, EXCEPT AS EXPRESSLY PROVIDED IN THIS AGREEMENT.

3. RESTRICTION AGAINST COPYING OR MODIFYING LICENSED MATERIALS. Except as expressly permitted in thisAgreement, You may not copy or otherwise reproduce the Licensed Materials. In no event does the limited copying orreproduction permitted under this Agreement include the right to decompile, disassemble, electronically transfer, or reverseengineer the Licensed Software, or to translate the Licensed Software into another computer language.

The media embodying the Licensed Software may be copied by You, in whole or in part, into printed or machine readableform, in sufficient numbers only for backup or archival purposes, or to replace a worn or defective copy. However, You agreenot to have more than two (2) copies of the Licensed Software in whole or in part, including the original media, in your

possession for said purposes without Enterasys’ prior written consent, and in no event shall You operate more than one copy ofthe Licensed Software. You may not copy or reproduce the documentation. You agree to maintain appropriate records of thelocation of the original media and all copies of the Licensed Software, in whole or in part, made by You. You may modify themachine-readable form of the Licensed Software for (1) your own internal use or (2) to merge the Licensed Software into otherprogram material to form a modular work for your own use, provided that such work remains modular, but on termination ofthis Agreement, You are required to completely remove the Licensed Software from any such modular work. Any portion of theLicensed Software included in any such modular work shall be used only on a single computer for internal purposes and shallremain subject to all the terms and conditions of this Agreement.

You agree to include any copyright or other proprietary notice set forth on the label of the media embodying the LicensedSoftware on any copy of the Licensed Software in any form, in whole or in part, or on any modification of the Licensed Softwareor any such modular work containing the Licensed Software or any part thereof.

4. TITLE AND PROPRIETARY RIGHTS.

(a) The Licensed Materials are copyrighted works and are the sole and exclusive property of Enterasys, any company or adivision thereof which Enterasys controls or is controlled by, or which may result from the merger or consolidationwith Enterasys (its “Affiliates”), and/or their suppliers. This Agreement conveys a limited right to operate the LicensedMaterials and shall not be construed to convey title to the Licensed Materials to You. There are no implied rights. Youshall not sell, lease, transfer, sublicense, dispose of, or otherwise make available the Licensed Materials or any portionthereof, to any other party.

(b) You further acknowledge that in the event of a breach of this Agreement, Enterasys shall suffer severe and irreparabledamages for which monetary compensation alone will be inadequate. You therefore agree that in the event of a breachof this Agreement, Enterasys shall be entitled to monetary damages and its reasonable attorney’s fees and costs inenforcing this Agreement, as well as injunctive relief to restrain such breach, in addition to any other remedies availableto Enterasys.

5. PROTECTION AND SECURITY. In the performance of this Agreement or in contemplation thereof, You and youremployees and agents may have access to private or confidential information owned or controlled by Enterasys relating to theLicensed Materials supplied hereunder including, but not limited to, product specifications and schematics, and suchinformation may contain proprietary details and disclosures. All information and data so acquired by You or your employees oragents under this Agreement or in contemplation hereof shall be and shall remain Enterasys’ exclusive property, and You shalluse your best efforts (which in any event shall not be less than the efforts You take to ensure the confidentiality of your ownproprietary and other confidential information) to keep, and have your employees and agents keep, any and all such informationand data confidential, and shall not copy, publish, or disclose it to others, without Enterasys’ prior written approval, and shall

return such information and data to Enterasys at its request. Nothing herein shall limit your use or dissemination of informationnot actually derived from Enterasys or of information which has been or subsequently is made public by Enterasys, or a thirdparty having authority to do so.

You agree not to deliver or otherwise make available the Licensed Materials or any part thereof, including withoutlimitation the object or source code (if provided) of the Licensed Software, to any party other than Enterasys or its employees,except for purposes specifically related to your use of the Licensed Software on a single computer as expressly provided in thisAgreement, without the prior written consent of Enterasys. You agree to use your best efforts and take all reasonable steps tosafeguard the Licensed Materials to ensure that no unauthorized personnel shall have access thereto and that no unauthorizedcopy, publication, disclosure, or distribution, in whole or in part, in any form shall be made, and You agree to notify Enterasysof any unauthorized use thereof. You acknowledge that the Licensed Materials contain valuable confidential information andtrade secrets, and that unauthorized use, copying and/or disclosure thereof are harmful to Enterasys or its Affiliates and/orits/their software suppliers.

6. MAINTENANCE AND UPDATES. Updates and certain maintenance and support services, if any, shall be provided to

You pursuant to the terms of an Enterasys Service and Maintenance Agreement, if Enterasys and You enter into such anagreement. Except as specifically set forth in such agreement, Enterasys shall not be under any obligation to provide SoftwareUpdates, modifications, or enhancements, or Software maintenance and support services to You.

7. DEFAULT AND TERMINATION. In the event that You shall fail to keep, observe, or perform any obligation under thisAgreement, including a failure to pay any sums due to Enterasys, or in the event that You become insolvent or seek protection,voluntarily or involuntarily, under any bankruptcy law, Enterasys may, in addition to any other remedies it may have underlaw, terminate the License and any other agreements between Enterasys and You.

(a) Immediately after any termination of the Agreement or if You have for any reason discontinued use of Software, Youshall return to Enterasys the original and any copies of the Licensed Materials and remove the Licensed Software fromany modular works made pursuant to Section 3, and certify in writing that through your best efforts and to the best ofyour knowledge the original and all copies of the terminated or discontinued Licensed Materials have been returnedto Enterasys.

(b) Sections 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12 shall survive termination of this Agreement for any reason.

8. EXPORT REQUIREMENTS. You understand that Enterasys and its Affiliates are subject to regulation by agencies of theU.S. Government, including the U.S. Department of Commerce, which prohibit export or diversion of certain technicalproducts to certain countries, unless a license to export the product is obtained from the U.S. Government or an exceptionfrom obtaining such license may be relied upon by the exporting party.

If the Licensed Materials are exported from the United States pursuant to the License Exception CIV under the U.S. ExportAdministration Regulations, You agree that You are a civil end user of the Licensed Materials and agree that You will use theLicensed Materials for civil end uses only and not for military purposes.

If the Licensed Materials are exported from the United States pursuant to the License Exception TSR under the U.S. ExportAdministration Regulations, in addition to the restriction on transfer set forth in Section 4 of this Agreement, You agree not to(i) reexport or release the Licensed Software, the source code for the Licensed Software or technology to a national of a countryin Country Groups D:1 or E:2 (Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Cambodia, Cuba, Georgia, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan,Laos, Libya, Macau, Moldova, Mongolia, North Korea, the People’s Republic of China, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan,Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, or such other countries as may be designated by the United States Government), (ii) export toCountry Groups D:1 or E:2 (as defined herein) the direct product of the Licensed Software or the technology, if such foreign

produced direct product is subject to national security controls as identified on the U.S. Commerce Control List, or (iii) if thedirect product of the technology is a complete plant o r any major component of a plant, export to Country Groups D:1 or E:2the direct product of the plant or a major component thereof, if such foreign produced direct product is subject to nationalsecurity controls as identified on the U.S. Commerce Control List or is subject to State Department controls under the U.S.Munitions List.

9. UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT RESTRICTED RIGHTS. The Licensed Materials (i) were developed solely at privateexpense; (ii) contains “restricted computer software” submitted with restricted rights in accordance with section 52.227-19 (a)through (d) of the Commercial Computer Software-Restricted Rights Clause and its successors, and (iii) in all respects isproprietary data belonging to Enterasys and/or its suppliers. For Department of Defense units, the Licensed Materials areconsidered commercial computer software in accordance with DFARS section 227.7202-3 and its successors, and use,duplication, or disclosure by the U.S. Government is subject to restrictions set forth herein.

10. LIMITED WARRANTY AND LIMITATION OF LIABILITY. The only warranty Enterasys makes to You in connectionwith this license of the Licensed Materials is that if the media on which the Licensed Software is recorded is defective, it will be

replaced without charge, if Enterasys in good faith determines that the media and proof of payment of the license fee arereturned to Enterasys or the dealer from whom it was obtained within ninety (90) days of the date of payment of the license fee.

NEITHER ENTERASYS NOR ITS AFFILIATES MAKE ANY OTHER WARRANTY OR REPRESENTATION, EXPRESS ORIMPLIED, WITH RESPECT TO THE LICENSED MATERIALS, WHICH ARE LICENSED "AS IS". THE LIMITED WARRANTYAND REMEDY PROVIDED ABOVE ARE EXCLUSIVE AND IN LIEU OF ALL OTHER WARRANTIES, INCLUDINGIMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, WHICH ARE EXPRESSLYDISCLAIMED, AND STATEMENTS OR REPRESENTATIONS MADE BY ANY OTHER PERSON OR FIRM ARE VOID. ONLYTO THE EXTENT SUCH EXCLUSION OF ANY IMPLIED WARRANTY IS NOT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE DURATION OFSUCH IMPLIED WARRANTY IS LIMITED TO THE DURATION OF THE LIMITED WARRANTY SET FORTH ABOVE. YOUASSUME ALL RISK AS TO THE QUALITY, FUNCTION AND PERFORMANCE OF THE LICENSED MATERIALS. IN NOEVENT WILL ENTERASYS OR ANY OTHER PARTY WHO HAS BEEN INVOLVED IN THE CREATION, PRODUCTION ORDELIVERY OF THE LICENSED MATERIALS BE LIABLE FOR SPECIAL, DIRECT, INDIRECT, RELIANCE, INCIDENTAL ORCONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES, INCLUDING LOSS OF DATA OR PROFITS OR FOR INABILITY TO USE THE LICENSEDMATERIALS, TO ANY PARTY EVEN IF ENTERASYS OR SUCH OTHER PARTY HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY

OF SUCH DAMAGES. IN NO EVENT SHALL ENTERASYS OR SUCH OTHER PARTY'S LIABILITY FOR ANY DAMAGESOR LOSS TO YOU OR ANY OTHER PARTY EXCEED THE LICENSE FEE YOU PAID FOR THE LICENSED MATERIALS.

Some states do not allow limitations on how long an implied warranty lasts and some states do not allow the exclusion orlimitation of incidental or consequential damages, so the above limitation and exclusion may not apply to You. This limitedwarranty gives You specific legal rights, and You may also have other rights which vary from state to state.

11. JURISDICTION. The rights and obligations of the parties to this Agreement shall be governed and construed inaccordance with the laws and in the State and Federal courts of the State of New Hampshire, without regard to its rules withrespect to choice of law. You waive any objections to the personal jurisdiction and venue of such courts. None of the 1980 UnitedNations Convention on the Limitation Period in the International Sale of Goods, and the Uniform Computer InformationTransactions Act shall apply to this Agreement.

12. GENERAL.

(a) This Agreement is the entire agreement between Enterasys and You regarding the Licensed Materials, and all prior

agreements, representations, statements, and undertakings, oral or written, are hereby expressly superseded andcanceled.

(b) This Agreement may not be changed or amended except in writing signed by both parties hereto.

(c) You represent that You have full right and/or authorization to enter into this Agreement.

(d) This Agreement shall not be assignable by You without the express written consent of Enterasys, The rights ofEnterasys and Your obligations under this Agreement shall inure to the benefit of Enterasys’ assignees, licensors, andlicensees.

(e) Section headings are for convenience only and shall not be considered in the interpretation of this Agreement.

(f) The provisions of the Agreement are severable and if any one or more of the provisions hereof are judicially determinedto be illegal or otherwise unenforceable, in whole or in part, the remaining provisions of this Agreement shallnevertheless be binding on and enforceable by and between the parties hereto.

(g) Enterasys’ waiver of any right shall not constitute waiver of that right in future. This Agreement constitutes the entireunderstanding between the parties with respect to the subject matter hereof, and all prior agreements, representations,statements and undertakings, oral or written, are hereby expressly superseded and canceled. No purchase order shallsupersede this Agreement.

Removing and Installing the Front Bezel

The DEMS-A1-25 comes with an optional front panel bezel that can be attached to the front of thechassis by snapping the bezel onto the chassis handles. A key lock allows you to lock the bezel inplace so that front panel controls cannot be used. System status indicators can still be monitoredwith the bezel in place.

Removing the Front Bezel

To remove the front bezel:

1. Unlock the bezel if it is locked.

2. Remove the left end of front bezel from rack handle (see letter “A” in Figure 1-5).

3. Rotate the front bezel counterclockwise to release the latches on the right end from the rackhandle (see letter “B”).

Installing the Front Bezel

To install the front bezel:

1. Lock the right end of the front bezel to the rack handle (see letter “A” in Figure 1-6).

Notes: Before installing the bezel, you must install the rack handles. See “Installing the DEMS-A1-

25 into a Rack” on page 1-17.

2. Rotate the front bezel clockwise till the left end clicks into place (see letter “B”).

3. Lock the bezel if needed.

Removing and Installing the System Cover

The DEMS-A1-25 must be operated with the system cover in place to ensure proper cooling.

Removing the System Cover

You will need to remove the top cover to add or replace components inside of the server.

To remove the system cover:

1. Turn off all peripheral devices connected to the server. Turn off the server.

2. Disconnect the power cord.

3. Remove the four screws (see letter "A" in Figure 1-7).

4. Slide cover back and lift upward (see letter "B").

Installing the System Cover

To install the system cover:

1. Place system cover onto the chassis and slide forward to engage recessed edge at front ofcover (see letter “A” in Figure 1-8).

Always operate the DEMS-A1-25 with the air duct in place. The air duct is required for properairflow within the DEMS-A1-25.

Remove the air duct by lifting it straight up. See Figure 1-9.

Installing System Memory

Although the DEMS-A1-25 supports DDR3 registered DIMMs (RDIMMs) or ECC unbufferedDIMMs (UDIMMs), it has been preconfigured with RDIMM memory. If you add additionalmemory, you must install RDIMMs.

See Figure 1-11 for the location of the DIMM sockets.

The system contains 24 memory sockets split into two sets of twelve sockets, one set for eachprocessor.

General Memory Module Installation Requirements

• For best performance, a minimum of four DIMMs per CPU is recommended, populated in the blue slot of each memory channel.

• DIMM population rules on CPU1

– Install DIMMs in order; Channels A, B, C, and D.

– Start with 1st DIMM slot (blue) on each channel, then slot 2, then slot 3 (24 DIMM board).

– Only remove DIMM blanks when populating the slot with a DIMM.

• DIMM population rules on CPU2

– Install DIMMs in order; Channels E, F, G, and H.

– Start with 1st DIMM slot (blue) on each channel, then slot 2, then slot 3 (24 DIMM board).

– Only remove DIMM blanks when populating the slot with a DIMM.

• Memory slot 3 must be populated at all times on all memory channels using a DIMM orsupplied DIMM blank.

Note: Specified memory slots can be populated with a DIMM or supplied DIMM Blank. Memorypopulation rules apply when installing DIMMs.

Installing Memory Modules

To install memory modules:

1. Turn off the system, including any attached peripherals, and disconnect the system from theelectrical outlet.

2. Remove the system cover. See “Removing the System Cover” on page 1-8.

3. Remove the air duct. See “Removing the Air Duct” on page 1-10.

4. Locate the DIMM sockets. See Figure 1-11.

5. Make sure the clips at either end of the DIMM socket(s) are pushed outward to the openposition (see letter “A” in Figure 1-12).

6. Holding the DIMM by the edges, remove it from its anti-static package.

7. Position the DIMM above the socket. Align the notch on the bottom edge of the DIMM withthe key in the DIMM socket (see letter “B”).

8. Insert the bottom edge of the DIMM into the socket (see letter “C”).

9. When the DIMM is inserted, push down on the top edge of the DIMM until the retaining clipssnap into place (see letter “D”).

10. Ensure the clips are firmly in place (see letter “E”).

11. Repeat step 5 through step 10 to install the remaining memory modules.

12. Install the air duct. See “Installing the Air Duct” on page 1-10.

13. Install the system cover. See “Installing the System Cover” on page 1-9.

Installing Hard Drives

You can install up to four 3.5” hard drives in the DEMS-A1-25. Figure 1-13 shows the numberingof the hard drive slots.

1. Remove the drive carrier by pressing the green button and opening the lever (see letter “A” inFigure 1-14). Slide the carrier out (see letter “B”).

2. Remove the four screws securing the HDD interface bracket and remove the HDD interface bracket (see letter “C” in Figure 1-15).

3. Install the hard disk drive using the same four screws as shown. Make sure the connector endof the drive matches the backplane connector (see letter “D” in Figure 1-16).

4. With the lever open, insert the hard disk drive assembly into the chassis (see letter “E”inFigure 1-17). Push in the lever to lock it into place (see letter “F”).

Hard Drive LED Indicator Patterns

The hard drive has two LED indicators visible from the front of the system — one is a green LEDfor disk activity, and the other is amber and indicates hard drive status. The LEDs have thefollowing states, as described in Table 1-4 and Table 1-5.

Replacing a Power Supply

The DEMS-A1-25 has two power supplies, supplying hot-pluggable power redundancy. Thesystem distributes the power load across both power supplies to maximize efficiency. When apower supply is removed with the system powered on, the full power load is picked up by theremaining power supply.

Removing a Power Supply

1. Disconnect the power cable from the power source.

2. Disconnect the power cable from the power supply.

3. Push the green latch in the direction shown in Figure 1-18 while pulling the power supply outof the system by the handle.

Installing a Power Supply

1. Insert the power supply module into the power supply cage and push all the way until itclicks into place.

2. Connect the power cable to the power supply.

3. Plug the other end of the cable into a power distribution unit (PDU) or power outlet.

4. Allow several seconds for the system to recognize the power supply and determine whether itis working properly. The power supply status indicator will turn green to signify properfunctioning.

Installing the DEMS-A1-25 into a Rack


Each power supply has a single bi-color LED to indicate power supply status, as described inTable 1-6.


A rack mounting kit and Installation Guide are included with the DEMS-A1-25. The rack mountingkit allows you to install the DEMS-A1-25 into a four-post rack cabinet. Refer to the InstallationGuide for complete installation instructions.

If you are installing the DEMS-A1-25 in a rack:

1. Install the rack handles by aligning a rack handle with the two holes on each the side of theDEMS-A1-25 and attaching each handle to the DEMS-A1-25 with two screws as shown inFigure 1-19.

2. Read the Installation Guide included with the rack mounting kit.

3. Install the rails and mount the controller in the rack as instructed.

If you are table mounting the DEMS-A1-25, ensure at least 6 cm of clearance on all sides of theDEMS-A1-25 for proper ventilation.

All Enterasys IPS 2U appliances come with an optional front panel bezel that can be attached tothe front of the chassis by snapping the bezel onto the chassis handles. A key lock allows you tolock the bezel in place so that appliance front panel controls cannot be used. System statusindicators can still be monitored with the bezel in place.

Removing the Front Bezel

To remove the front bezel:

1. Unlock the bezel if it is locked.

2. Remove the left end of front bezel from rack handle (see letter “A” in Figure 2-5).

3. Rotate the front bezel counterclockwise to release the latches on the right end from the rackhandle (see letter “B”).

Installing the Front Bezel

To install the front bezel:

1. Lock the right end of the front bezel to the rack handle (see letter “A” in Figure 2-6).

2. Rotate the front bezel clockwise till the left end clicks into place (see letter “B”).

3. Lock the bezel if needed.

Removing and Installing the System Cover

The appliance must be operated with the system cover in place to ensure proper cooling.

Removing the System Cover

You will need to remove the top cover to add or replace components inside of the appliance.

To remove the system cover:

1. Turn off all peripheral devices connected to the server. Turn off the server.

2. Disconnect the power cord.

3. Remove the four screws (see letter "A" in Figure 2-7).
