Supported versions of SAP Web Dispatcher for different SAP NetWeaver application server releases

The version number of the SAP Web Dispatcher is not necessarily identical with the SAP NetWeaver release. SAP Web Dispatcher is generally downward compatible, so you can use an SAP Web Dispatcher version that is more recent than the version of the SAP NetWeaver release and kernel.

The table below provides an overview of the SAP Web Dispatcher versions that are supported with a given SAP NetWeaver or SAP Application Server release. For SAP Business Suite or other SAP products you can determine the underlying NetWeaver release to find the correct SAP Web Dispatcher version.

Other combinations are currently not supported. The use of SAP Web Dispatcher for multiple SAP systems is an exception. In this case, use the version of SAP Web Dispatcher that fits the SAP system with the highest release.

Downloading a current SAP Web Dispatcher version

The installation guide is provided on the SAP Software Download Center at https://service.sap.com/installnw73 or https://service.sap.com/installnw74 -> 3 - Installation - Standalone Engines -> Installing Web Dispatcher for SAP NetWeaver 7.1 or Higher

The installation procedure is provided by the Software Provisioning Manager (SAPinst). The SAP Web Dispatcher installation also requires the corresponding Unicode kernel archive. You can download both from the SAP Software Download Center at https://service.sap.com/sltoolset

We recommend that you import the latest version of SAP Web Dispatcher after installation. It is provided on the SAP Software Download Center at https://service.sap.com/swdc -> Support Packages and Patches -> Browse our Download Catalog -> SAP Technology Components -> SAP Web Dispatcher -> < Release > ->

Note: The SAP Software Download Center currently provides only ASCII version of SAP Web Dispatcher. Use these even if the installed SAP Web Dispatcher is a Unicode version.

Note: The SAP Software Download Center currently provides 7.20 and 7.40 versions of SAP Web Dispatcher, but not 7.21 or 7.41 etc. Always use the latest patch level of the supported SAP Web Dispatcher version (see table above) that can be found in the SAP Software Download Center, even if the installed SAP Web Dispatcher has a higher version number.

Updating or patching SAP Web Dispatcher

If you have installed the SAP Web Dispatcher with the SAP installation (Software Provisioning Manager) as a separate system (with a separate SID), copy all files from sapwebdisp_< PL >-.SAR into the directory of the executables (such as D:\usr\sap\\SYS\exe\nuc\NTAMD64).

Note: Before copying the files, make sure to completely stop the SAP Web Dispatcher and the SAP Start Service (sapstartsrv) of the instance.

Note:TheSoftwareProvisioningManagerinstallstheUnicodeversionofSAPWebDispatcher.NeverthelessusetheASCIIversionforpatching.

If you use the SAP Web Dispatcher in an existing SAP Web AS system (with the same SID), copy the files from sapwebdisp_< PL >-.SAR into a separate run directory. For this, you could, for example, use the following directories:

l Windows: C:\Program Files\SAP\SAPWebDisp l UNIX: /usr/sap//sapwebdisp

The SAP Web Dispatcher documentation is identical for NetWeaver releases 7.0 and 7.20. Therefore, you can follow the described path even if you use SAP NetWeaver Release 7.0x (= NetWeaver 2004s).

Further information

l Note that the names of the following two files for the SAP Web Dispatcher have changed in Release 7.00: For monitoring, the command wdispmon is used (instead of icmon). The files for the Web administration interface are available in the archive wdispadmin.SAR (instead of icmadmin.SAR).
