Glenview,1. Patrician Mother, 1875 by Anna Lea Merritt (1844-1930) is an important painting in Glenview’s Parlor. 2. A hearth with an enamel surround in the Parlor that was restored in 1999 to reflect its

original stenciled ceilings and wall coverings. 3. Ceramic Fairy Tale Tiles, c. 1877, surround the Great Hall fireplace and were designed by J. Moyr Smith for Minton’s China Works, England.

4. John Bond Trevor (1822-1890) built Glenview in 1876 as a summer home for his family. 5. The Ebony Library, Glenview 6. Laylight above the Great Hall staircase, Glenview, 1877 is etched

and painted glass. It is called a laylight rather than a skylight, which is open to the sky. 7. Glenview’s exterior walls were built from local gray granite trimmed with Ohio sandstone. 8. Mary and

Emily Trevor with Lispenard Stewart on the Glenview grounds, c.1885 9. Glenview’s Sitting Room was the favored gathering place for the Trevor family. Its reclining chair, once owned by the Trevors,

was one of the first made.

on the National Register of Historic PlacesMore than a hundred years ago, John Bond Trevor and his family built a summer home on the banks of the Hudson River in Yonkers, a town not toofar from New York City where he worked. The Trevors called the house Glenview and soon decided to live in it all year long. How they designed theirhome, chose the materials from which to build it, and selected the furniture and objects that made the home special to them is the story you will findat the Hudson River Museum. Glenview shows us a Victorian Era family, who lived, worked, and played as we do today, using some of the things weknow and others long put aside as new inventions and ways of doing things were discovered.
