Linking verbs- special kind of verb that links the subject of the sentence to a word that describes or renames it. Think of it as an = sign!

During reading1.  Read all of Report 11 silently.2.  As you read, put your inference arrow where you made an inference.

After reading1.  Grab a slip of paper from the front table.  Put your names on it (one slip per group).  Find an occurrence of one of the themes on the bulletin board and record it on the slip of paper.  Be sure to put the theme (friendship, love, acceptance, treatment of people with mental challenges in society) on the paper.  3.  Submit slip to bin.4.  Now, with your partner, record six key plot events in your summary packet.5.  Write your summary of report 11 in your packet. 6.  Grab your homework “Point of View Switch” from the front table. Start it.

1.4 Types of Writing Narrative

Objective: To write a story using first person point of view

Bellringer: 1. Choose a key or best scene from the story so far. Record it in your notebook.

EX:  Charlie races Algernon and wins!

2. Now pretend you are any character from the story except Charlie. Write two to three sentences from that character’s point of view (first person) about his or her reactions to the scene.

EX: (Burt) Charlie has been losing against Algernon the lab mouse for ten weeks now.  He gets so frustrated, I know.  Last night when we were running the maze test, Charlie won for the first time!  He jumped up and down, knocking over my coffee.  The smile on his face was ear to ear!
