Burlington Catholic Second Sunday of Lent
Needless to say, my head has been in somewhat of a spin since announcing last weekend that Cardinal Seàn O’Malley has appointed me to serve as pastor of parishes in Concord and Carlisle. This appointment takes place in June. I am appreciative of the various sentiments that parishioners have expressed that range from regret that I am leaving, to the offering of congratulations on my new assignment, and, most especially, the assurance of a continued remembrance in their prayers. As I have shared with you many times before, I am humbled and find myself blessed to have been called to serve God’s people as a priest. These past seven years in Burlington have been of particular blessing to me and, I am hopeful, to you as well. I know that God’s Spirit will guide me in my new assignment to the people of Holy Family Parish in Concord and St. Irene Parish in Carlisle. I am also certain that God has great things in store for all associated with St. Margaret and St. Malachy Parishes as the Burlington Catholic Collaborative finds itself under the pastoral leadership of my successor, Father James Mahoney. In time, there will be much more to share with you about Father Mahoney and the establishment of the Burlington Catholic Collaborative. However, at the present time, I’m still here among you (thank God!) and there is much to be done — not only in preparing for the transition to take place in June, but also in our journey together through this Lenten Season. That being said, let’s make the most of these coming weeks as we prepare ourselves to be renewed in the Paschal Mystery this Easter. One way that our parish communities have done this together for several years has been in the offering of our annual Parish Lenten Mission. This year’s mission will take place on April 1, 2, and 3. A popular Passionist preacher, Father Blaise Czaja, will be conducting this year’s mission under the theme “Disciples on the Way.” I encourage you to mark your calendar now and commit yourself to putting aside time to participate. God bless...

Message
BURLINGTON CATHOLIC
DISCIPLES IN MISSION
Luke’s account of the Transfiguration is rich with meaning. Peter recognizes this special moment with Jesus: “Master, it is good that we are here.” We don’t have to go up the mountain to be with Jesus. We can say those very words of Peter every day when we are united with Jesus through sacraments and daily prayer. Listen to what God says, not just to the Apostles that were on that mountain, but to each of us: “This is my chosen Son, listen to Him.” Pray in a special way this Lent to hear Jesus’ voice and pray particularly for the courage to share your faith with others. Introduce a friend to Jesus.
2nd
Sunday of Lent
On the second Sunday of every month, the local art center features an open house. The artists work in glass enclosed spaces so visitors can watch them as they shape pottery, blow glass figurines, paint portraits, or craft jewelry. As raw materials take on beautiful shapes, visitors marvel at the talent and skill of artists and craftsmen. There is always an opportunity to take a class or try one’s hand at art. The power to create and transform renews and refreshes everyone. The Apostles were already familiar with the artistry and creative power of God. Like us, they saw it in the accounts of creation, witnessed it in the beauty of nature and marveled at it in their own abilities and those of others to create, think, work and love. But in the Transfiguration of Jesus, they were given a new insight into the infinite power of God to give life, to overcome death and to redeem us and save us from the effects of sin. It was a moment that gave hope and peace. We are all part of God’s artistry and creative power. The chisel of grace shapes us each day into a clearer image of God. We are works of art and, through us and in us, the beauty of God’s love transforms the world. We are not passive recipients, but active participants as we share His power to create and transform and renew.
- James Gaffney

COMMUNITY OUTREACH On Saturday, March 16, we will be going into Bos-ton for the Boston Sock Exchange. Volunteers are asked to sign up at the podium outside the conference room in St. Malachy’s Church. We are in need of the following: cases of water, peanut butter sandwiches, cheese sandwiches. We are also looking for gently used sweatshirts and long sleeved t-shirts (sizes large and extra large - not undershirts). And we are always looking for new socks! Please put any donations in the big box outside the conference room in the church. On Wednesday, March 20, we will be supplying meals at the Lowell Transitional Center. Volun-teers are needed to ride with us to Lowell and serve the meals and desserts for the clients. Bakers need to bring homemade desserts to the church by 1:00pm. Either of these ministries would be good for students who are looking for service hours. Thank you for supporting both of these very important ministries!

VIDEOGRAPHERS WANTED! For over 26 years, a Sunday Mass offered in St. Malachy’s Church has been taped for viewing on the Burlington Cable Access Television. The “St. Malachy Sunday Service” was
the first weekly religious service on BCAT’s program line-up and remains one of its longest running weekly programs – usually broadcast on Sunday or Monday. Presently, Beverly Broderick and Bernie Heath have shared the responsibilities in taping the weekend Mass. They are looking for the assistance of others who would be able to cover one or two weekend Masses per month. Can you help? Former Video Voyager Club members are particularly welcome! For those who do not have a video cam, BCAT will provide a weekend loaner along with the training. Many parishioners have expressed appreciation in being able to watch the Mass (and their friends!) on TV when they are unable to attend in person. We want to continue this long-running ministry to the Burlington Catholic Community. But we need your help! Beverly and Bernie tape one of the weekend Masses every weekend. Stop by when you see them to get more information or to indicate your interest. They will warmly welcome your questions. You may also contact: Beverly Broderick – [email protected], or Bernie Heath – [email protected].
