WRC BABY BOTTLE FUNDRAISER
In 2016, Women’s Resource Center of Hancock County collected $33,864.38! This is significant for their annual budget, and they are so grateful to the church families that helped. On January 15, 2017, they launched their next Baby Bottle Fundraiser. Trinity is participating in the fundraiser again this year. The bottles are located in the church lobby. Please take one and fill your baby bottle with change, dollars and/or a single check to help those in our community in practical, emotional, and spiritual ways. Make checks out to WRC of Hancock County and in the memo line put “baby bottle fundraiser”. When you have filled your bottle please return it to the Church Office or the Bookkeeper’s Office at Trinity. Thank you, Susan Frech & the Health Ministry Team of Trinity

STEPHEN MINISTRY
Answers to Frequently Asked Questions
Why is this lay caring ministry system called the Stephen Series?
The Stephen Series is named in honor of Stephen, whose story is told in the sixth chapter of the book of Acts. As you recall, the Apostles, guided by the Holy Spirit, commissioned a group of individuals to work with them to do acts of caring ministry, and Stephen was one of those persons. Hence, Stephen became one of the first lay persons to be sent forth to do caring ministry. Because Stephen Ministers are commissioned to do acts of caring ministry, it seemed appropriate for this program of lay ministry to be named in honor of Stephen.
What does the Stephen Series logo represent?
The logo of the Stephen Series in intended to convey what the Stephen Series is all about.
A cross appears at the center of the logo to remind us that everything Stephen Ministers do is done in the name of Jesus, by the power of his Spirit, and through his body, the church.
Two people are shown in the logo. Behind the cross is a broken person – a person in need of healing, a person in need of Christ’s love and care. In front of the cross stands a person who has experienced the healing ministry of Christ – a person who has received the love and care of Jesus, a person who is being made whole.
The logo is thus designed to show that the path from brokenness to greater wholeness is through Jesus Christ and the ministry of Christ’s people, including the ministry of Stephen Ministers.
Often this logo appears with the Stephen Series motto: Christ Caring for People through People.

PASTOR DENNY’S PAGE
Dear Church As the Reformation 500 year moves along, there are a number of things we are doing here at Trinity to com-memorate the event.
Community Project The Reformation 500 team has set a date and is inviting the Hancock Country ELCA Lutherans to
consider a joint project to mark the occasion and draw us closer in partnership. If you have any suggestions for what this project might be please pass those on to Becky Noack.
Lenten Mid-week Lent has always been about reflecting on what God has done for us through Christ Jesus that leads
to repentance and renewal. This year our Lenten mid-week worship will focus on the Small Cate-chism in word, song, and prayer. The format has been suggested by the ELCA. We are hoping to make this very participant friendly and spiritually enriching. Let me know if you would like to help lead a service.
Family Devotions We have a resource from Wartburg Seminary called “Connections” that could be used by families,
couples, small groups, even a Lenten Sunday School group. The goal of the program is to make connections between the small catechism and daily life. You can check it out here: https://www.wartburgseminary.edu/resources/connections-resource-congregations/. Perhaps all our adult classes could use the material and then have a banquet at its conclusion. Let me know if you use this material at home.
Banners The banner for February is Sola Gratia (Grace Alone). In Luther’s day, the Roman church taught
that salvation came through grace plus one’s efforts to please God that arose out of grace. Luther, following Ephesians 2:1-10 and other passages, came to realize that salvation is ours through grace alone. Our trying hard to please God (even with grace) has nothing to do with our obtaining salva-tion. Salvation is a gift, i.e. grace. The banner will consist of a “word cloud” based on the Ephesians text.
Trip to LutherLand There are four people from Trinity participating in the Luther Land trip led by Pr. Chris Dittmar the
week following Easter. They are Darla Johannsen, Carolyn Maurer, Ivy Nehls, and myself. We have a DVD by Rick Steves on the Reformation sites we will be visiting and the reformation generally. You can borrow it through the office.
One final thing on my mind is the incivility, anger, and violence in our world these days, and especially as associated with the election. My prayer for us as a congregation and a nation is that we will know that peace that passes all understanding in Christ Jesus, that we will put our trust in the Lord who has the whole world in his hands, and that we will practice living like we are all sisters and brothers in Christ. Blessings on your work and your witness, Pr. Denny
