The 940H two stage cage guided valve is specially designed using recent advancements in control valve technology to deliver peak noise abatement with superior control. The cage guided construction and controlled kinetic energy levels, throughout all stages of the valve internals reduce plug vibration and maintenance costs. This approach minimizes the chance of damaging the trim, adjacent equipment and piping. All 940H valves have a quick change design to ensure convenient repair and easy trim replacement. Should the need present itself for enhanced noise attenuation, the 940H can be upgraded to a DRAG® disk stack. The design is technically supported by the world class expertise of the Valve Doctor program and is a continuation of CCI’s industry leading severe service solutions that customers have come to depend on.

940H For Noise Control

CCI’s noise control philosophy is to design out the problem rather than trying to silence it once produced. The 940H can dramatically reduce the amount of noise that must be absorbed by the pipe wall or insulation. This lowers the noise sensed in the vicinity of the valve to more acceptable levels.

World Class Control

Smooth control throughout the stroke. The inner cage includes a staggered hole pattern that allows for a smooth transition of Cv vs. stroke. The 940H cage assembly prevents a dead band issue while stroking.

Actuation options include spring diaphram, double acting piston or QuickTrak. Whether the application calls for pneumatic, hydraulic or electric actuation, the 940H can be designed to meet the right level of control.

3Quiet Operation, Low Noise

Not just cages!

Consistent with CCI’s industry recognized engineering approach, the 940H cages are highly engineered to perform and provide a low noise solution. The CCI development team has conducted extensive research and testing to design and optimize the cage through the use of CFD examination and shadow graph testing. This approach provides:

Optimized expansion constant between the cages for the best noise attenuation and reliable long life. Utilizing multi-stage cages, the pressure drop is distributed between the inner and outer cage. This ensures that the noise attenuation can be met without creating vibration due to an excessive pressure drop across the inner cage, resulting in relatively high kinetic energy levels at the exit.

Low noise hole spacing is usually not considered by other manufactures as a main factor that can influence the trim noise of the valve. In fact, ISA/IEC calculates the noise level (and the frequency output) on the hypothesis that each hole is producing a single jet. In reality, if holes are very close to each other, the small jets recombine into a single, bigger one (figure 3). If this happens, the frequency distribution is shifted to lower levels, reducing the effect of noise reduction due to A-weighting..

Both laboratory testing and CFD analysis have confirmed that, with proper hole spacing, the flow will not re-form into a single jet shape. The cage will, therefore, be able to properly separate the fluid stream (figure 4). This effectively prevents a10dBA incremental noise output, above what the ISA/IEC standard may predict. A consequence of this design is also a decreased potential for low frequency mechanical vibration.

The 940H two-stage cage design can meet a wide range of application demands like no other prior design has done. Through proper application of technology and engineering expertise a low noise, long life and optimized design has been developed (figure 5).Figure 4: Proper spacing with the 940H
