WHAT A TERM! We've had a great book-filled Autumn Term, with a birthday party for our library, a FlashRead, a Winter Reading Challenge for Y3 and 4, and a Book Bout Competition for Y5 and 6. Lots of children have attended Marvellous Mondays in the library after school.

WE'RE GOING TO ICELAND! We are finishing the term with a bang, as we become an Icelandic school next Wednesday 21st. The Icelandic people love reading as much as we do so we will be getting our Icelandic vibe on by dressing up and enjoying some traditions, including putting a shoe out for the Icelandic Yule Lads. Children may bring costumes to change in to after whole school Mass e.g. long t-shirts and leggings with a belt; woolly jumpers and jeans; embroidered shirts and long skirts; Viking helmets, shields etc. There may be some surprises in the day so do ask the children all about it!

FESTIVE HOME DIARIES Your child will receive their Christmas and New Year Home Diary next Wednesday. We issue the usual challenge - can the children do something every day in the holiday linked to a book?! Thank you.

Thank you for your continued support in helping your children develop as good readers. Hearing them read regularly and encouraging them into get into daily reading habits makes a huge amount of difference to their progress.

SHAME ON YOU! The driver of a BMW, car

registration number KT59 XKU, who on Monday morning, didn’t park their car in Heathcote Street like everyone else, but selfishly abandoned the vehicle in the middle of the road, so that other parents and residents could not get up or down the street. Your inconsiderate parking reflects very badly on our school and it is totally unnecessary. Please be considerate of others!

REMINDER We have had a lot of absence in the last few weeks due to the Norovirus - sickness and diarrhoea, Also known as the “winter vomiting bug “it is highly infectious and spreads easily. Good hygiene will help reduce the spread of infection. Hands should be washed with liquid soap and water after:

◊ Using the toilet

◊ Before eating/handling food

◊ After coughing and sneezing

◊ When they are dirty

◊ After handling animals

Children should be kept at home for 48 hours after their last bout of sickness or diarrhoea. If your child has an infectious illness, please help us to keep our school as healthy as possible by keeping them at home for the recommended period. If you are unsure of what this period is, please contact the school office.

FOOTBALL NEWS On Wednesday afternoon we played in the 2nd round of the Catholic Cup against Good Shepherd Primary School. The final score was St. Augustine’s 3 – Good Shepherd 2. Man of the match was Mckenzie Stretton. Well done to both teams! We are now through to the third round of the Catholic Cup.

CHRISTMAS DID YOU KNOW’S. An average snow flake fall’s at 3.14 miles per hour.

Carols were not sung in churches until they were introduced by St. Francis of Assisi in the 13th Century.

The Holly wreath symbolises Christ’s crown of thorns, while the red berries are drops of his blood.

Gold wrapped coins commemorate St. Nicholas who gave bags of gold coins to the poor.
