The storage principle is replacement of sea water by oil to enable a light low cost structure. The storage is essentially a single compartment with one take-off point and one permanent open connection to the sea. The optional integrated well caisson contains twelve well slots and all risers and J-tubes for operation of the tank and the production platform. The tank is self-installing by means of three buoyancy tanks that, after installation, are part of the storage volume. The foundation is on short skirts that are sucked into the sea bottom. The tank can be transported on a self-propelled submersible heavy lift vessel and towed to the site for installation by sea water ballasting. Before installation of the production jack-up that completes the MOPUstor platform, the tank/ caisson combination functions as a pre-drilling wellhead platform for a regular cantilever drilling jack-up.
