WTA Overview
Wireless Trace Analyzer (WTA) is a tool that provides end to end call trace view and enables optimization, analysis and troubleshooting LTE*, Small Cell, WCDMA, IMS, CDMA and EVDO networks.
Traces the entire call signaling messages from inception to completion on Nokia Network Elements
Decodes 3GPP protocol and Network Element proprietary messages
Correlates call trace data between Network Elements
* interactive call trace activation and automated call trace data collection supported in real time

WTA Software License is managed by License Key Delivery Infrastructure (LKDI)

eDAT is an internal tool that supports both Drive Test (i.e UE logs) and Call Trace data files
WTA is an external tool (sold to customers) that only supports Call Trace data files

Software development is common for both eDAT and WTA and is supported by DE Services R&D organization (led by Mustaquiem Kazi located in Bangalore)

Call trace is a 3GPP compliant tracing mechanism
- Scalability & interworking with probe was not a key requirement in the 3GPP design (TS 32.422/423)

The 9958 WTA efficiently addresses common problems such as identifying the reasons for subscriber authentication failures, and very complex ones requiring detailed protocol layers message decoding.
The 9958 WTA is also extremely helpful for troubleshooting the behavior of new devices, or for performing in-depth analysis of call traces following a subscriber complaint. As it can combine trace analysis from multiple network elements, complex correlation of traditional probe-based traces is avoided.
Introduction of a new network element, software release, or telecom feature may bring new problems that can only be identified with an end-to-end visibility of the exchanges over the different network interfaces.
Handover execution in a wireless network is a critical part of a call, and can in many cases result in call drops or low Quality of Experience (QoE) perception. Detailed analysis of the handover preparation is essential to understanding the reasons behind the poor performance. WTA offers an efficient way to verify successful handoffs from one technology to another as well as analyzing failure causes.

Traffic Threshold - Number of Connected UE ratio for the monitored eNB cell
• eNB monitors # of RRC connected UEs in 1min sampling interval
• At the end of 1min interval, eNB calculates the connected UE percentage for each monitored cell and compares with the configured threshold value.
• If the calculated value is lower than the configured value, eNB start collecting the trace data whenever a UE starts a call on the traced cell.
