This river trail encom passes 36 m iles of the beautiful St. George River fromRoute 173 in Searsm ont to Thom aston. This brochure show s a m ap of the river,access points, rapids, portages and historical points. From Seven Tree Pond inUnion to Thom aston the river offers excellent paddling and wildlife viewingwith a few easy rapids at all water levels. It is recom m ended to paddle fromW arren Village to Thom aston on an outgoing tide so the current is not againstyou. The upper river from Searsm ont to Seven Tree Pond offers beautifulscenery and challenging rapids but can be difficult paddling during low waterconditions. There are no m ark ed trails at the portage sites. Paddlers m ust respectprivate property ow ners when portaging or stopping for rest break s. The upperriver is narrow and has m any trees fallen into the river. Be on the look out for“strainers”, trees hanging from shore into the river, that can trap paddlers andtheir boats. Scouting the m ore challenging rapids before running them isrecom m ended. If you feel uncom fortable running them or if the water level istoo low “line” your canoes through them . This is a self-guided trip.Youareresponsible for your ow n safety. Use good judgem ent.
