Gauge: 10 sts & 15 rnds = 4” / 10cm in stock-inette stitch

Work this circular blanket from the center out in three colors of heavy worsted weight yarn. The center section features a bit of Iceland with some simple stranded motifs followed by some textured stripes and diagonal lace. A knitted on lace border in garter stitch finishes the large blanket. Choose shades of one color or go bold with even brighter, more contrasting pops of color.

Section 1

Using A, CO 8 sts using Emily Ocker’s circular CO method. There are several photo and video tutorials online demonstrating this method. You can also CO 8 sts using the long tail CO, but it may result in a tiny hole in the middle of your blanket. Place marker and join to work in the rnd.

Use the charts in addition to the written instructions while working Rnds 1-34.

Rnd 1: K8

Rnd 2: (M1, k1) 8 times. 16 sts.

Rnd 3: K16.

Rnd 4: (M1, k1) 16 times. 32 sts.

Rnds 5-7: (K1A, K1B) 16 times.

Rnd 8: Using A, (m1, k1) 32 times. 64 sts.

Rnd 9: K64.

Rnds 10 & 11: (K2A, k1B, k1A) 16 times.

Rnds 12-14: (K1A, k3B) 16 times.

Rnd 15: (M1A, k2A, k1B, k1A) 16 times. 80 sts.

Rnd 16: (K3A, k1B, k1A) 16 times.

Section 4

Rnd 1: (YO, k2, k2tog) to end of rnd.

Rnd 2: K all sts.

Repeat last 2 rnds 22 more times. Then repeat Rnd 1 once more. Break color B.

Next Rnd: Using C, (k8, m1) to end of rnd. 630 sts.

Next Rnd: P all sts.

Next Rnd: K all sts.

Next Rnd: P all sts.

Repeat last 2 rnds once more. Break color C.

BORDER

The border is knit back and forth while being attached to the live sts.

Using color A, CO 8 sts.

Row 1 (RS): K7, sl2 wyif (1 color A st and next color C stitch).

Row 2 (WS): K2tog, k5, yo, k2.

Row 3 (RS): K8, sl2 wyif (1 color A st and next color C stitch).

Row 4 (WS): K2tog, k6, yo, k2.

Row 5 (RS): K9, sl2 wyif (1 color A st and next color C stitch).

Row 6 (WS): K2tog, k5, yo, k2tog, yo, k2.

Row 7 (RS): K10, sl2 wyif (1 color A st and next color C stitch).

Row 8 (WS): K2tog, k6, yo, k2tog, yo, k2.

Row 9 (RS): BO4, k6, sl2 wyif. (1 color A st and next color C stitch).

Repeat Rows 2-9 until all sts are worked together with the border. BO all sts. Seam BO edge to CO edge. Block finished blanket. The photographed sample was just steamed to smooth the fabric.
