A Daily Devotion for the Princes of Lorenzburg. C ontemporary humans long for a profound and wholesome individualism, lets call it sovereignty: it means a state or a (governing) body has the full right and power to govern itself without any interference from outside sources or bodies. How I would love to exist in a human culture where each person is truly met as an equal with the same possibilities, rights and duties to discover and learn and live fully. As the sovereign of a minor nation I strive to contribute to a society where people are intellectually free and where every individual is resting in the knowledge that they have something valuable to bring to the table. You may call me a dreamer but I'm not the only one.

K ings and Queens of old followed the biblical custom of submitting their flesh to anointing with holy oil upon taking up the crown. I too have undergone this rite of sacred kingship. I submit myself to it as I am anointed with Chrisma Principate (Coronation Oil) everyday before dealing with the affairs of the day. It is a daily contemplation on what it means to be a sovereign and to dedicate myself to the wellbeing of my people. I present to you a recipe for coronation oil, inspired by the biblical traditions:

  • Drops of each essential oil: ! Benzoin 50 ! Rose 10 ! Jasmine 10 ! Myrrh 6 ! Myrtle 5 ! Cassia 1 ! Spikenard 1

Blend the oils in half a deciliter olive oil and shake vigorously. Use with care as essential oils can be harsh on the skin for some people, also you just MIGHT invoke the wrath of the God of the Old Testament:

This shall be a holy anointing oil to Me throughout your generations. It shall not be poured on anyones body, nor shall you make any like it in the same proportions; it is holy, and it shall be holy to you. Whoever shall mix any like it or whoever puts any of it on a layman shall be cut off from his people.'

If you will, and if you dare, you too could anoint yourself with Chrisma Principate each day. Make it a daily ritual of self-consecration. Be a sovereign body in your own right and manifest that inner majesty which all humans are endowed with.

  • To be a Prince is to take on a mythic role and a great responsibility. The Prince functions as figure head and spear head: simultaneously a symbol to gather around, and a vehicle for direct action. If the Prince shall be able to act with any authority at all it is vital that he has some form of legitimacy to lean on. Anyone can, and have the right to, call themselves Prince or Princess of a patch of land, however without a people it will be a very lonely Prince indeed. To be a Prince is to serve, to protect and to lead. Wanting to be a Prince in order to have servants or admirers is a path that leads to ruin.

There is a mythic dimension to kingship or being a Prince. It means a close and special connection to the land and to the people. It means taking on the double responsibilities of leader and sacrificial lamb. Though one may conquer a people and occupy lands, one cannot take by force the nobility that makes a true Prince. Such qualities come from within. Such qualities must be learnt, exercised and contemplated.

For His Serene Highness Prince Fre The Charge of the Prince constitutes a daily devotion and contemplation on the mythic qualities of being the Prince of Lorenzburg. Here below is the liturgical text to be recited daily as part of the ritual anointing with Coronation Oil:

  • I . The Presentation

I, Beau Fre Jean-Seraphine Baltazar, of free will an undoubted Prince, here present myself unto the realm: I come forth to serve all those who follow my banner: I arise to protect all those who take shelter in my lands. My heart and my borders are open to each and any who come to strengthen, enlighten, beautify and grace us with their most singular talents and presence. To those who seek a Prince I am a Lighthouse proclaiming, Here I Am! Of my realm I am the first and the first-named: I am a unicorn, furious protector and source of might - come to me. I am a panther, I speak fragrant fumes of vision come to me. I am a peacock on the first morning of creation, my name is Gentle Glory come to me. I am the fount and the corner stone of my realm. Come all ye who seek a Prince and a Haven! I I . The Anointing

Come, Inner Majesty, my soul inspire, And lighten with celestial fire. Thou the anointing Spirit art, Who dost thy many gifts bestow upon my heart. Thy blessed Unction from within, is strength, and fire of love akin.

  • Come, Silent Mystery, vessel of initiation, Thou art the true oil of anointing, the salts of salvation. As my brow receive the sacred balm, From my lips the shaping psalm: The body of the Land is one with the body of the Prince. The heart of the Land is one with the heart of the Prince. The truth of the Land is one with the truth of the Prince. Anoint the palms of both the hands, saying: These hands that are now anointed are the hands of the Land. Anoint the right shoulder, saying: This shoulder that is now anointed is the protection of the Land. Anoint the left shoulder, saying: This shoulder that is now anointed is the healing of the Land. Anoint the breast, saying: This heart that is now anointed is the heart of the Land. Anoint the crown of the head, saying, This head that is now anointed with Princely Oil, is the head of the Land and may this head wear the crown with wisdom and generosity. May this be so, Besamim
