There were no signs of vio- lence before death and no evi- dence the girl had been molest- ed. Frisky and apparently none the worse, the puppy was found in the closet with the huddled form of the girl whose disappearance touched off the greatest search in the history of Camden county. THEORY OF CHIEF Police Chief Edward Garrity immediately after the body was discovered, insisted the girl was taken to the newly built brick one-story home only recently. Throughout the night he re- peatedly declared the dwelling had been searched the day the girl was first reported missing. Garrity said an oil burner re- pairman had visited the house at noon yesterday and had gone to the basement to check the heater. He heard no barking or any other noise as might have been expect- ed of the dog. Moved by sympathy or by curiosity, hundreds of spectators filled the block near the little girl's home, and a steady stream of automobiles turned off Black Horse pike into the small street. THOUSANDS AFFECTED The vast throng was almost eerily silent, apparently intent only on catching a glimpse of the scene of one of the most heart- tugging dramas in the area in many years. The crowds and the silence were grim evidence that the tragedy had gripped the minds of hundreds of thousands of people. Police roped off the entire block on 24 st. from Bellmawr lane to Cedar ave. to keep back crowds from the house at 433 2d ave., two blocks from the Barker home, where Mary Jane was found deadln a closet, and where investigators searching for clues wanted no intrusion of the curious. FAR INTO THE NIGHT The rope barriers and the chill damp of the night did not dis- courage the spectators. More than 300 milled outside the pro- hibited area far into the night. The scene after word of the Iragic outcome of the week-long search for Mary Jane was dif- ferent only iri degree from that which the Browning lane sector had witnessed all day long. Before noon an unending pro- cession of automobiles had been moving through the streets, their occupants apparently intent on a glance at the Barker home at 335 E. Browning lane. Then when the word of the fatal discovery spread, the number of cars clogged the streets and police set up road blocks and detours. curiosity, hundreds of spectators filled the block near the little girl's home, and a steady stream of automobiles turned off Black Horse pike into the small street. THOUSANDS AFFECTED

The vast throng was almost eerily silent, apparently intent only on catching a glimpse of the scene of one of the most heart-tugging dramas in the area in many years.

FAR INTO THE NIGHT

The rope barriers and the chill damp of the night did not discourage the spectators. More than 300 milled outside the prohibited area far into the night.

The scene after word of the Iragic outcome of the week-long search for Mary Jane was different only iri degree from that which the Browning lane sector had witnessed all day long.

Before noon an unending procession of automobiles had been moving through the streets, their occupants apparently intent on a glance at the Barker home at 335 E. Browning lane.

Then when the word of the fatal discovery spread, the number of cars clogged the streets and police set up road blocks and detours. It was well after midnight before tht area was cleared. )
