Lesedi is a leading engineering, procurement,
construction (EPC) African company, with a long
history in nuclear, industrial power, mining and oil
and gas environments.
5www.lesedins.co.za4 www.lesedins.co.za
Lesedi Nuclear Services evolved from Intens
Engineering soon after the construction and
commissioning of South Africa’s Nuclear Power
Station (Koeberg) by AREVA in the mid-1980s.
In 2001 Lesedi partnered with global nuclear
leader AREVA NP to acquire a 45% stake in the
company and form Lesedi Nuclear Services, a
BEE shareholding company. In 2006, AREVA NP
acquired another 6% stake in Lesedi, giving it
majority shareholding of 51%. In building capacity
for the “nuclear renaissance”, Lesedi diversified into
other energy-related infrastructure projects in the
South African power industry.
In June 2012, Lesedi was joined by new industrial
partners Group Five and the J&J Group to further
position itself in the South African power industry.
Lesedi has since diversified into a major
engineering, procurement, construction and
maintenance (EPCm) company, having successfully
completed numerous key projects in the nuclear,
industrial power, mining, and oil and gas
environments. Lesedi’s main shareholder, AREVA
was renamed Framatome in January 2018. With
the name change of its principal shareholder, and
with Lesedi evolving to a firmly established African
company with a fully diversified business offering,
the company rebranded to better reflect its purpose
and vision for the future.
