Chip Kidd is an American graphic designer, editor andauthor working for the random house group since 1986and has worked as a freelance for many other compa-nies and authors.He is also well known for his talks on book cover de-sign and performs at conferences all around the world,especially his latest presentation on Ted talks 2012. Hismost famous design being the logo for the Jurassicpark franchise that was firstly the book cover design forthe Jurassic park book.

SummaryBook design is a small part in the larger industry, whichis publishing. The process of book design is one that clearly revolvesaround packaging and presentation and is the start of aprocess that leads to a potential reader becoming areader.

The edited content for this book shows not just an industry but also a time capsule of what is happening atthe moment in the book-publishing world.

There seems to me to be a divide in beliefs among thedesigners, editors and art directs who work in publishing.

The argument captured in this book is about the currentdebate over eBooks.

Some see eBooks as a threat, others see it as an opportunity and some simply think that what ever happens and whatever format it takes it will still need acover of some shape or form.I personally believe that digital publishing is an opportunity that is opening up to designers and allowsfor more creative ground to be covered within the fieldand that whatever happens eBook or other it will needsome sort of branding or packaging.
