DEITIES FOR THE MODERN AGE

YOUR MISSION:

• Create a deity (god, goddess or demi-god) for the modern age• This character should represent the values and beliefs you and your group has

decided are the MOST VALUABLE to your generation’s survival in the wiles of this dangerous, unpredictable landscape known as High School• What is the most important value your group has determined is vital to your

survival?• Who or what deity is in control of this phenomenon?

• Remember the purpose of myths? • They explain, teach and entertain.

• Your group will create a deity and myth of his or her origins that teaches us a valuable lesson about survival in an entertaining way

OPTIONS:

• Your group can present a poster collage, an original illustration, an illustrated myth, a PowerPoint presentation, a short skit presented to the class, a song or lyrical poem, an interpretative dance…. In fact the only limit to how you present your deity is your imagination!

• Be sure that

• A.) All group members must be involved in the final product*

• B.) Your presentation is original and creative

IN THE BEGINNING…

• Where do you start?

• Think of some unpredictable element in your everyday life—something you currently have little control over….

• Social media, the moods of others, technology, public transportation, entertainment, sporting events, illness, etc.

DIRECTIONS:1. Give him/her a name, a realm and assign them a purpose

2. Think of a story of the god’s or goddess’s origin, or where his/her power comes from, his/her purpose that your group can PRESENT to the class (story-telling)

Please note: While you don’t have to type anything up, you do have to have some notes organized for you to use when you present your ideas to the class.

3. Visual aids and/or Props—Be sure to include the important symbols associated with your deity. These could be clip-art, magazines, drawings, etc. for your god or goddess, props (togas, swords, whatever…)

4. BE CREATIVE!

• Wifius was the only son born to the all powerful god, Internitus. A sullen, surly young man, Wifius was unpredictable in his moods.
