• https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj219427.aspx• Click-to-Run is a Microsoft streaming and virtualization technology that you can use to
install and update Office products. These streaming and virtualization capabilities are based on technologies in Microsoft Application Virtualization (App-V).
• Even though the Office product runs in a self-contained environment, the Office product can interact with the other applications that are installed on the computer. Macros, in-document automation, and cross-Office product interoperability will work.
• Is an alternative to the traditional Windows Installer-based (MSI) method of installing and updating Office

• C2R deployed and updated via SCCM• Had already started working with Azure for Authentication• No MS EA and not large enough to qualify• Chose mix of Business Premium (BP) and E3
– BP vs. E3 is basically Office Standard vs. Office Pro – plus additional O365 Services• Future migration to Exchange Online• Interested in possible use of OneNote and OneDrive for Business• Likely moving to Microsoft SCCM/Intune as an MDM for Mobile Application
Management (MAM) for greater control within Microsoft apps on mobile devices

• Hardware/VDI considerations• Upgrade in place v. Rip & Replace• User Impact considerations

– Included some Building Blocks, Quick Parts, and Firm QAT• Created Firm “Quick Style Sets”• Users had to recreate Quick Parts• Left AutoCorrect (.acl) files alone• Left Custom Dictionary alone

• Limited integrations so nothing holding us back• NetDocuments was actually pushing us to upgrade as Office 2007 was
holding us back• Implemented ndOffice at same time – Big win!• Found out McAfee Outlook add-in is not Office 2016 certified
– Patch 8 coming “late August”• Found we had to “Disable hardware graphics acceleration” on all Windows 7
computers due to lockup issues• Huge speed increase in Outlook due to smaller OST with only 12 months of

• Decide on your licensing EARLY in the process!
• Always consider the impact to your firm personnel!
• IF you choose the C2R option, you will need to change your internal process for checking, testing, and deploying updates.

• Consider the TOTALITY of the upgrade. It’s never just Office!
• Consider training. “This is not your father’s Oldsmobile!” Follow new adult learning principles and theory for user adoption.
• IF you do not have Office 365, consider getting licensing and start testing. This is the way of the future.
