A gSource is proud to sponsor a Virtual Farm Tour of Scheps Dairy, in Almena, Wis. The tour will take place at World Dairy Expo on Saturday, October 5th at noon. The Scheps’ herd has a rolling herd average of 31,835 pounds of milk with 1,294 pounds of fat and 1,033 pounds of protein while maintaining a somatic cell count of 121,000. Founded in 1977 by Ken and Debbie Scheps, the herd has continued to grow steadily, expanding in 1999 and welcoming Ken’s brother, Dan, as a partner in the operation. To help improve the dairy’s efficiency, each of the 920 cows and young stock are identified with RFID tags. The Scheps are able to closely monitor each cow using a combination of the RFID tags and tracking software that monitors daily production. Additionally, they rely heavily on DHI information and other tools to measure the dairy’s success. The Scheps recognized the need to build a transition barn in 2007 thanks in part to these monitoring tools. Learn more about this successful dairy operation at World Dairy Expo on October 5. A gSource’s powerful herd management software

program, AgSource DM, just got even better. The newest updates were member-focused, producer driven and developed with one goal in mind: to offer the best herd management software program possible to simplify data entry and access while helping members make informed management decisions for continued success. Improvements to AgsourceDm IncluDe: • Create Health Events – Users can now create and link custom health events to multiple events as well as any type, including calving, breeding, and other health events. Medicines and treatments can also be linked to the individual health event. • Preloaded Synch Worksheets – Users can now select the specific cows to enroll and the specific program they want to run. • Medicines- Treatments Menu – This menu gives users the ability to add medicines or treatments, milk and meat withholds, dosage, and costs associated with each. • Dynamic Reports – Click on a pencil to enter the event, select columns to sort, or click on an individual cow to view her cow page. AgSourceDM users have the ability to enter herd data from a PC, tablet or even a smart phone. The program is internet based, which means there is no software to install.“If you were going to do all that in a notebook it would be impossible. You can generate reports, you can sort data, and, for a program that does everything it does, it’s very economical,” says John Backhaus, active AgSourceDM user and AgSource member since 2009. AgSourceDM is divided into three categories: Data Entry, Reports and Graphs and Settings and Options.DAtA entry The majority of information entry takes place in the Data Entry category. Users will find Cow Page Events, Batch Entry of Events, and Sire/Semen Inventory menus in this

category. Using the cow pages, users can navigate through the seven tabs to either enter events on an individual cow or view her history.Batch entry of events is ideal for entering duplicates of the same event on the same day for multiple animals, i.e. pen moves, dry offs, breedings. The Sire/Semen inventory allows users to keep track of commonly used sires and semen purchases. Once a breeding is entered, the unit will be automatically removed from the semen inventory.reports AnD grAphs The Reports and Graphs section includes six sub menus: Standard Reports, User Defined Reports, Graphs, Daily Attention Report, Synch Worksheets, and Vet Check Report. What makes the reports in AgSourceDM unique is that they are dynamic. You can click on a pencil to enter the event, click on the columns to sort, or click on the cow to view her cow page. If you enter from the report, once you process the entry, you will be redirected to your report again. The Daily Attention report draws attention to the activities that need to be done on a regular basis. What appears on this report is set by the user, either by the use of linked health events or through settings and options, i.e. Pre-Calving Check, Cows to Start Synch. Many of the options available on the daily attention report are also available as standalone reports in Standard Reports. settIngs AnD optIons The Settings-Options section is the nuts and bolts of the whole program. Here producers set-up their program specific to their needs. Using the settings-options menu, a producer would set up their report criteria for cows and heifers, program display options, BST and Johnes settings (if used) as well as change their password. The Set Breeding Techs-Codes and Set Log ID’s enables tracking of breeding programs and entry. Free 90-DAy trIAl AgSourceDM is full of valuable features that make it a very competitive herd management program. With a price of $25.00 a month, it is also very affordable. Try it for free with our 90-day risk-free trial. For more information ask your field technician or our new AVP of Outreach, Training and Sales Support, Erin Berger at [email protected].
