A few notes & reminders:

Please consider contributing to support field trips, playground equipment, critical classroom supplies, and tools to supplement STEM education for our kids. The non-fundraiser runs through the end of September. You can send your check to school with your student, checks made payable to Jackson PTA. Thanks for your support!
• Our PTA is on Facebook. Like the page entitled "Jackson Jets PTA”. We are looking for a Secretary to join our PTA board (see attached flyer for more details). Refer to the attached committee signup flyer to see how you can get involved with PTA activities.

From Mr. Duffy’s Desk
September 21, 2017
Hello Jackson Family,
It is hard to believe that we are nearly a month in to the school year already! The trees are changing and it is looking more like fall every day (although it doesn’t feel much like fall when it’s 90 degrees)!
We are so lucky to have a nurturing, supportive, focused environment here at Jackson. The mission of the Cedar Rapids Community School District is “Every Learner: Future Ready.” Here at Jackson, we have added a layer to that for our building mission- “Every Learner; Every Day: Future Ready!” It is our goal at Jackson Elementary to create meaningful, high-impact learning for every person in our school. Additionally, we focus on “every day” because regular attendance is critical to student success and achievement. Finally, we are focused on making sure each child is future ready in terms of skills, literacies, and mindset. We have a team of teachers who are delving in to blended learning, which focuses on technology integration and personalized learning.
Thank you for being a partner with your child’s teacher. Exciting things are happening and are on the horizon here at Jackson.
As always, I am honored to be your child’s principal.
-Nick
DROP OFF and PICK UP REMINDERS…
-Please do not park in the drop off lane in the mornings. This makes it
difficult to keep traffic flowing and ensure that all students arrive safely
to school. Please consider parking in the lot or on the street if you need
to walk your child in to the building.
-Please remember that while everyone is in a hurry in the morning,
student safety is our top priority.
-During afternoon pick-up, thank you for keeping an eye on the flow of
traffic and following the prompts of the adults directing traffic.
Attention Jackson Jets!! Registration for the Green Team is Open for students grades K-5.
Please use click on the link HERE to register your student.

JACKSON PTA NON FUNDRAISING EVENT Have you ever thought to yourself, “I would love to help fund our school programs, but I don’t want to fundraise!”? Well, this is the program for you! This year, the Jackson PTA would like to focus on NOT fundraising through selling or having a large fundraiser event, so we are
trying an option where we can gain the MOST with NO SELLING or VOLUNTEERS.
This is our “non-event” for 2017-2018. No hassles, and you don’t even have to leave your home. You may choose to participate in this program in lieu of other fundraising activities or in addition to them.
Our fundraising goal this year is to raise $7,000 to cover the cost of a new teacher refrigerator for the teacher lounge; repair the PTA storage shed: purchase some new playground equipment (add to funds from last year); and provide classroom supplies for our teachers. In addition, this year’s fundraising will be used to fulfill the budget needs for this school year.
Money raised by the PTA will help fund additional programs such as field trips, music, art, assemblies and enrichments during the current school year. We will be working on applying for grant funding that will supplement or match our raised funds for the playground equipment, but we could use some help with grant writing.
If you are thinking to yourself, “why can’t we sell items as a fundraiser?” We can, but we need someone to lead this initiative and organize a selling event. Right now, we don’t have volunteers. This is our way of raising funds to fulfill request for various fieldtrips, events, support teachers, and our school!
Please consider participating on a level where you feel comfortable. (The Laughs Are Free!)
_____ I only want to get out of a little work. Hope my $10.00 helps.
_____ Because I don’t have the time or energy to rearrange my cupboards and closets to store all that wrapping paper, I’ll donate $25.00.
_____ My thighs insist that I give a donation of $50.00 for not subjecting them to selling (and eating) cooking dough.
_____ On behalf of my friends, who don’t want to have to go into hiding to avoid my sales pitch, I’m donating $75.00.
_____ My green thumb is brown, and I do not want to spend my weekend planting flower bulbs that I will forget to water. Here is my $100.00.
_____ I didn’t help last year and I feel very guilty about it (I don’t feel guilty, just saying that to make myself feel better). In fact, I don’t plan on helping this year either. So here is $150.00 to forget my name until 2018.
_____ Please accept the enclosed donation of $_________ with my thanks and appreciation for everything the Jackson PTA does for teachers and children.
Your generosity is greatly appreciated! We thank you for supporting the PTA’s efforts to make Jackson Elementary School a quality school for all of our children.
